BMC strongly recommends implementing the Synthetic Device Configuration on a Real User Analyzer or Real User Monitor, so that you can more quickly realize value from your monitored synthetic transactions. Implement the device configuration on a new installation of the Real User Analyzer or Real User Monitor.

For a description of the configuration elements that are added for synthetic transaction monitoring, see Recommended configuration for synthetic monitoring.

Warning

Do not implement the device configuration on a system that has post-installation configurations. The device configuration resets all existing configuration to the default settings, and then applies the required settings for the synthetic transaction monitoring environment.

If you want to manually add configuration for synthetic transaction monitoring to a working system, see Recommended configuration for synthetic monitoring.

This topic presents the following tasks to obtain the Synthetic Device Configuration, upload it to the system, and activate its contents:

Obtaining the Synthetic Device Configuration from the EPD website

The Synthetic Device Configuration is available for download from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website at http://webapps.bmc.com/epd . To use the website, you must register and set up a user name and password. For information about downloading the device configuration, see Downloading installation files for synthetic monitoring.

The downloaded Synthetic-device-configuration.zip file contains the following files:
