To monitor the Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) using PATROL for Sybase, you must define connections with the Sybase database systems.

Perform the following tasks to configure PATROL for Sybase for monitoring Sybase ASE:

Adding Sybase ASE environment

Perform the following steps to configure the Sybase environment:

  1. From the PATROL Console work area, right-click the Sybase application class.
  2. Select KM Commands > Sybase Configuration > Add Sybase Environment.
    The Add new Sybase configuration dialog box is displayed.
  3. In the Add new Sybase configuration dialog box, provide the following information:
  4. Click Apply to save the configuration.
    1. Environment name—To add a new environment, enter a unique display name for the Sybase ASE environment. A container will be created with the environment name. This environment will hold all the Syabse instances. 

      Note

      You should not provide any special characters such as "\ */?":<>" in the environment name field.

    2. Host—Enter the host name or IP number of the system where the Sybase ASE instance is running.
    3. Port—Enter the port number of the Sybase ASE instance.
    4. User—Enter the user name that is used to connect to Sybase ASE. For more information, see PATROL monitoring account requirements.
    5. Password—Enter the password for the user name. 
    6. From the following list of Sybase software product, select ASE for monitoring the Sybase ASE : 
      • ASE
      • Replication
      • IQ
      • SQL AnyWhere
        By default, ASE will be enabled.
    7. ASE Security Details—Provide the following ASE security details:
      1.  Use Encrypt Password—Enable this option to encrypt the ASE login password.
      2. If you have enabled Use Encrypt Password check box, specify the JCE provider in the JCE Provider field.
        For more information, see the HowTo.txt file in the PATROL_HOME/pskkm/JCEProvider (Linux) or PATROL_HOME\pskkm\JCEProvider (Windows) folder.

        The asymmetric password encryption mechanism uses RSA encryption algorithms to encrypt the password being transmitted. To perform this RSA encryption, you must configure a Java Cryptography Extension (JCEprovider.
      3. Enable SSLEnable this option for enable SSL.
      4. If you have enabled Enable SSL check box, specify the TrustStore file name and TrustStore password in the respective fields for one way SSL and two way SSL connections.
    8. Custom collection detailsSelect any of the following collection details for monitoring the Sybase ASE instance.
      • Availability—Select this option to check the availability of instances, connections and databases.
      • Full data—Select this option to collect all the monitored groups.
      • Custom data—Select this option to collect only the monitored groups selected from the custom data module types.
        If you select custom data as Custom collection details, a dialog box will be displayed to select one or more of the following options to customize data: 

        • Databases
        • Capacity
        • Performance
        • Disk
        • Network
        • Application queue
        • Datacache
        • Index
        • Kernel
        • Locks
        • Memory
        • Metadata
        • Parallel
        • Procedure cache
        • Recovery
        • Tasks
        • Transaction manager
        • Transaction
        • Worker process
        • Users
        • Replication Agent

        The availability of Sybase ASE will be monitored all the time irrespective of the custom data you select for monitoring.

  5. Click Accept to save the configuration.
  6. Click Close to close the dialog box.

Administering tasks

 From the PATROL Console work area, right-click the Sybase application class to perform the administering tasks:

  1. Access KM commands > KM Administration > DEBUG to turn the debug on or off for the instance level.
