Using the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console, you can perform the following tasks on BMC PATROL Agents:

Running PSL commands on BMC PATROL Agents

You can run the PSL commands on BMC PATROL Agents and view the results through the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console.

To run the PSL commands on BMC PATROL Agents, perform the following steps:

  1. Perform one of the following tasks:
    • In the Main drawer of the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console, select Devices > Grid View. Select the agent on which you want to run the PSL commands, and click the blue wrench icon .
    • On the Show Monitors page, in the Tools Menu column of a monitor, click the blue wrench icon .
  2. Select Query Agent.
  3. To select a commonly-used PSL command, click and select a command from the list.
    The PSL command appears in the Command box. Click Apply and then Execute.
  4. To manually enter a PSL command, type the command in the Command box and press Enter, or click Execute.
    For example, %DUMP ALL

    The results are displayed.

Reinitializing a BMC PATROL Agent

You can reinitialize or restart an agent through the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console.

To reinitialize or restart an agent, perform the following steps:

  1. Perform one of the following tasks:
    • In the Main drawer of the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console, select Devices > Grid View. Select the agent that you want to restart, and click the blue wrench icon .
    • On the Show Monitors page, in the Tools Menu column of a monitor, click the blue wrench icon .
  2. Select Query Agent.
  3. Click Reinitialize Agent .
  4. A confirmatory message is displayed.
  5. Click OK.
    The agent is restarted.

Reloading a BMC PATROL Agent

You can reload the config.default file and the change file for a BMC PATROL Agent through the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console.

To reload the config.default file and change file for a BMC PATROL Agent, perform the following steps:

  1. Perform one of the following tasks:
    • In the Main drawer of the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console, select Devices > Grid View. Select the agent on which you want to reload the config.default file and the change file, and click the blue wrench icon .
    • On the Show Monitors page, in the Tools Menu column of a monitor, click the blue wrench icon .
  2. Select Query Agent.
  3. Click Reload Agent .
  4. A confirmatory message is displayed.
  5. Click OK.
    The agent is reloaded.

Killing a BMC PATROL Agent

You can stop a BMC PATROL Agent through the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console.

To stop a BMC PATROL Agent, perform the following steps:

  1. Perform one of the following tasks:
    • In the Main drawer of the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console, select Devices > Grid View. Select the agent that you want to stop, and click the blue wrench icon .
    • On the Show Monitors page, in the Tools Menu column of a monitor, click the blue wrench icon .
  2. Select Query Agent.
  3. Click Kill Agent .
    A confirmatory message is displayed.
  4. Click OK.
    The agent process is stopped.

On non-English Linux computers, if you use the Firefox browser, when you reinitialize, reload, or kill an agent, a confirmatory message is displayed with the black background. On other browsers, the confirmatory message is properly displayed.

Obtaining the latest value of the PATROL Agent parameters

To obtain the latest value of the PATROL Agent parameters in the Operations Console, perform the following steps. The Refresh Parameters option triggers the collector on the BMC PATROL Agent and starts collection data. The data is then streamed to BMC ProactiveNet.

  1. In the Main drawer of the BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console, select Devices > Grid View.
  2. Select the agent for which you want to obtain the latest value of the parameters.
  3. Select a monitor and from the Tools menu, select Refresh Parameters.

The command starts to execute and displays the Command Executed Successfully message after a successful execution of the command.
