This topic provides instructions for setting or changing alarm thresholds for the parameters that you created.

To set or change the alarm threshold for a previously created single parameter

  1. Find the application instance just above the Value parameter whose thresholds you want to change.
  2. For Performance Monitor Wizard parameters, find the NT_PERFMON_COUNTER application instance that corresponds to the parameter whose thresholds you want to change.
  3. For WMI Wizard parameters, find the NT_WMI_PARAMETER application instance that corresponds to the parameter whose thresholds you want to change.
  4. Access the application menu for the parameter whose thresholds you want to change as described in Accessing KM menu commands.
  5. Choose Set Alarm Thresholds.
The Set Alarm Thresholds dialog box displays.
    • Border Minimum
      • Type the lower-bound warning value in the Warning Min field.
      • Type the upper-bound warning value in the Warning Max field.
    • Border Maximum
      • Type the lower-bound alarm value in the Alarm Min field.
      • Type the upper-bound alarm value in the Alarm Max field.
  6. Click one of the following:
    • OK sets the thresholds you entered and closes the dialog box.
    • Cancel closes the dialog box without applying any of your changes.

If a problem occurs

When monitoring a Performance Monitor counter whose value is normally less than 1, you cannot specify meaningful alarm ranges since alarm ranges must be integers. However, you can customize the parameter so that the value displayed in PATROL is an integer.
