Configuring BMC PATROL for Microsoft Performance Monitor and WMI

The PATROL Wizard for Microsoft Performance Monitor and WMI allows you to quickly create your own parameters based on Microsoft's Performance Monitor (PerfMon) counters or Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) data. You can also set alarm and warning thresholds for each parameter that you create. You might want to create a new parameter if you are interested in monitoring something for which no PATROL parameter currently exists.

After you install BMC PATROL for Microsoft Performance Monitor and WMI, you must load the Knowledge Module (KM) into the BMC PATROL Console and configure the product so that it can obtain parameter data from the Microsoft Performance Monitor and WMI.

You must complete the following tasks before you can start using the KM:

• Loading the PATROL Wizard for Microsoft Performance Monitor and WMI
• Creating the performance monitor parameters
• Creating the WMI parameters
• Changing a WMI Wizard parameter's name or query
• Setting or changing alarm thresholds for parameters
