You can define the monitoring criteria in policies and then apply them to the PATROL Agents. When you modify a policy, all the changes are automatically pushed to the PATROL Agents on which the policy is already applied. 

When a monitoring policy is applied to a PATROL Agent, the device or server that hosts the Agent is automatically added to the list of monitored devices.

On the Add Monitor Types dialog, with the Monitoring Profile set to Domain and the Monitor Type set to Exchange domain monitoring, provide the following details:

Select this check box to enable automatic discovery and monitoring of all the Exchange servers within the domain.

Enabling this feature sets the KM to automatic discovery and monitoring all the Exchange Servers within the domain. Ensure that the Exchange Management Shell is installed on the PATROL Agent computer and the PATROL Agent default account has permissions to access the remote Exchange servers included in the domain.

Exchange ServerClick Add and enter the details.
Configuration details
Fully qualified server nameEnter the fully qualified Exchange server name for remote monitoring.
Exchange domain user credentials
User name

Enter the Exchange user account that is used to access the Exchange server, directory, user mailboxes, and messaging subsystems in the following format: domain\username.  (Applicable for Microsoft Exchange 2010 and later)

Verify that this account meets the following requirements:

  • Member of domain user account

  • Member of the local Administrators group
  • Exchange View Only Organization Management
Password and Confirm PasswordEnter and confirm the password.
Server performance
Perfmon objects

Select one or more of the following server perfmon objects, which you want to monitor. By default, all perfmon objects listed are selected:

  • Database
  • Database Instances
  • Mail Submission
  • IS Public
  • IS Mailbox
  • IS Client
  • Transport Queues
Components
EnableSelect this check box to monitor the components available in the Exchange Servers.
Queues
EnableSelect this check box to monitor the queues available on the Exchange Servers.
Delivery types

Select one or more of the following queue delivery types, that you want to monitor.

Database
EnableSelect this check box to enable monitoring of the databases available on the remote exchange server.
Active copySelect the database active copy status to monitor.
StatusSelect one or more of the following database status type, that you want to monitor. 
Content index stateSelect one or more of the following database content index state types, that you want to monitor.
Mailbox accounts
EnableSelect this check box to enable monitoring of the database mailbox accounts for the remote exchange server.
Interval time (hours)

Enter the interval time after which the total, active and inactive mailbox account information will be displayed. The maximum interval time you can select for displaying the information is 50, minimum interval time is 0.

Note

If you set the minimum interval time to 0, the KM will collect the data when the main collector collects the data. For example, if the main collector is set to 5 minutes, then the mailbox account information will be collected every 5 minutes.

Log files
EnableSelect this check box to enable monitoring of all the database log files for the remote exchange server.
Interval time (hours)

Enter the interval time after which the database log file size and the number of log files will be displayed. The maximum interval time you can select for displaying the information is 50, minimum interval time is 0. By default, this value is set to 2 hours.

Note

If you set the minimum interval time to 0, the KM will collect the data when the main collector collects the data. For example, if the main collector is set to 5 minutes, then the mailbox account information will be collected every 5 minutes.

Watched users
EnableSelect this check box to monitor resource utilization of selected Exchange users.
Watched usersClick Add.
Mailbox userEnter the Exchange user name (can be an alias name or the email address). After you add a user, you get the options to edit, delete, and clone users.
Message traffic
EnableSelect this check box to monitor the message traffic for the remote exchange server.
Top consumers
Top mailboxes
EnableSelect this check box to enable monitoring of the top resource-consuming mailboxes.
Number of mailboxes to monitorSelect the number of mailboxes you want to monitor. The maximum number of mailboxes you can select for monitoring is 50, minimum number of mailboxes you can select for monitoring is 0.
Identify by

Select one of the following for identifying the top mailboxes:

  • Messages count
  • Message size
Top folders
EnableSelect this check box to enable monitoring of the top resource-consuming folders.
Number of folders to monitorSelect the number of folders you want to monitor. The maximum number of folders you can select for monitoring is 50, minimum number of folders you can select for monitoring is 0.
Identify by

Select one of the following for identifying the top folders:

  • Messages count
  • Message size
Top senders
EnableSelect this check box to enable monitoring of the top Exchange Server mail senders.
Number of senders to monitorSelect the number of mail senders you want to monitor. The maximum number of senders you can select for monitoring is 50, minimum number of senders you can select for monitoring is 0.
Identify by

Select one of the following for identifying the senders:

  • Messages count
  • Message size
Number of messagesMonitor top senders based on the total number of messages.
Message sizeMonitor top senders based on the total message size (MB).
Top receivers
EnableSelect this check box to enable monitoring of the top Exchange Server mail receivers.
Number of receivers to monitorSelect the number of mail receivers you want to monitor. The maximum number of receivers you can select for monitoring is 50, minimum number of receivers you can select for monitoring is 0.
Identify bySelect one of the following for identifying the receivers:
  • Messages count
  • Message size
Number of messagesMonitor top receivers based on the total number of messages.
Messages sizeMonitor top receivers based on the total message size (MB).
RoundTrip server session settings
Internet
Roundtrip internet session settings

Click Add and enter the following details:

  • Mail server name: Enter the internet mail server name to send the email message, for example, gmail.comyahoo.com.
  • User Name: Enter the user name of the sender mail box account.
  • Password: Enter a valid password.
  • Confirm Password: To confirm, enter the password again.
  • Email address: Enter the email address defined in the configured Exchange Server that will be used to send or receive the email messages from the Internet mail server.
  • Attachment: Enter the full path to the file that is located on the monitored computer. This file will be attached to the email message before sending the email. For example, C:\BMC\Internet_session\Internet_session_file.txt.
  • SMTP server: Enter the name of the SMTP server that is used to send the email message. For example, gmail.com, yahoo.com.
  • Timeout: Select the time in seconds after which the message will timeout. The default value is 60 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for timeout is 600 seconds, the minimum value that you can select for timeout is 10 seconds.

After you save these details, you get the option to edit, delete, and clone these settings.

Client

Click Add and enter the following details:

  • Host name: Enter the host name of the client within the Exchange domain.
  • User Name: Enter the client machine credentials to get remote access to send email messages. The user must have an associated mail box account.

  • Password: Enter a valid password.
  • Confirm Password: To confirm, enter the password again.
  • Email address: Enter the email address defined in the configured Exchange Server that will be used to receive the email message that was sent from the client computer. The configured administrator credentials should be associated with this mailbox account.
  • Attachment: Enter the full path to the file that is located on the configured client computer, if the pure client mail submission is set to true. If the pure client mail submission is set to false, enter the full path of the file that is located on the monitored computer. This file will be attached to the email message before sending the email. For example, C:\BMC\Client_session\Client_session_file.txt.
  • SMTP Server: Enter the name of the SMTP server that will be used to send the email message. If the Pure client mail submission option is not enabled, enter the name of the CAS Server.
  • Pure client mail submission: Enable this option to send email messages from the client machine. Disable this option to send an email messages using the Exchange web services (EWS managed API) from the monitored computer.
  • Timeout: Select the time in seconds after which the message will timeout. The default value is 60 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for timeout is 600 seconds, the minimum value that you can select for timeout is 10 seconds.

After you save these details, you get the option to edit, delete, and clone these settings.

Server

Click Add and enter the following details:

  • Source mailbox server: Enter the name of the mailbox server name to set the roundtrip server to server session. If this field is left blank the configured Exchange server will be selected as the source mailbox server.
  • Target mailbox server: Enter the target mailbox server name to set the roundtrip server to server session.
  • Active directory timeout (ms): Select the time in milliseconds after which the timeout will occur. The default value is 15 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for timeout is 1000 milliseconds, the minimum value that you can select for timeout is 10 milliseconds.
  • Execution timeout (ms): Select the execution time in milliseconds. The default value is 240 seconds. The maximum value that you can select for timeout is 5000 milliseconds, the minimum value that you can select for timeout is 100 milliseconds.
  • Cross premises: Select this check box to enable the CrossPremises parameter. The CrossPremises parameter specifies whether the mail flow test will be conducted in cross-premises mode. Enable this parameter if your organization is using a cross-premises deployment and you want to verify cross-premises mail flow. Only for MS Exchange Server version 2010 and later.

After you save these details, you get the option to edit, delete, and clone these settings.
