You can extend the capabilities of TrueSight IT Data Analytics by integrating with the following BMC products:

  • TrueSight and ProactiveNet products
  • Remedy Action Request System

This topic provides the following information about the need and process of integration:

Integration use cases

An integration with Remedy Action Request System can provide you additional context about a problem (or event) and help you determine the root cause more quickly. For example, while troubleshooting an issue on one of the servers, it is useful to see change and incident information related to that server.

This integration also helps you find answers to questions such as:

  • How many tickets are still open?
  • How many tickets are closed?
  • The pending tickets are marked on whose name?

To understand the integration process, see Integrating with Remedy Action Request System.

An integration with the TrueSight and ProactiveNet products can help you perform faster root cause analysis and discover important insights about events collected. You can collect all kinds of event data, for example, incident events, change events, and even alarms generated by ProactiveNet.

While analyzing a problem or event on the TrueSight (or ProactiveNet) product, you can directly cross-launch into IT Data Analytics. This feature allows you to use the current context of the TrueSight (or ProactiveNet) product to further study the problem in IT Data Analytics. To understand the integration process, see Integrating with TrueSight and ProactiveNet products.

Use this section to understand product compatibility between IT Data Analytics and TrueSight and ProactiveNet products.

Note

To be able to integrate with TrueSight Presentation Server, you need to configure Atrium Single Sign-On for user-authentication.

For more information, see Deploying IT Data Analytics with Atrium Single Sign-On.

1 Unlike other integrations, an integration with the TrueSight Presentation Server needs to be performed via the TrueSight console.

2 and 3 An integration with TrueSight Infrastructure Management requires that TrueSight Infrastructure Management is already registered with TrueSight Presentation Server.

4 Refer to the table under the section Integration features.

Integration features

The following table describes the features available with the supported integrations:

Note

The following integration features are only available while integrating with TrueSight Presentation Server 10.1.00 and later.

  • Create dashlets on the TrueSight console.

  • Cross-launch from the TrueSight console into IT Data Analytics without the need for authentication.

  • Search an application from the TrueSight console (while creating a notification).

Additional information

Send events

Create notifications to send or log events into the integrated product:

By creating a notification, you can monitor particular events that you are analyzing in IT Data Analytics. During the monitoring, if you notice a problem or error, you can log events into the integrated product from IT Data Analytics. While logging an event from IT Data Analytics, you can also associate the event with an application existing on the integrated product.

Cross-launch

Cross-launch from the integrated products into IT Data Analytics.

Create dashlets

Create IT Data Analytics dashlets on the integrated product.

For more information, see Creating dashlets on TrueSight Presentation Server.

Get events

Collect events from the integrated product into IT Data Analytics and run various kinds of search on the events. Also, perform in-depth analysis on the events by running advanced search commands.

To be able to collect events, you need to create the Collecting data from external systems data collector.

View metrics data

At the time of getting events, metrics data is obtained from the supported product into IT Data Analytics and displayed as a chart (see metrics chart in the timeline chart area).

Collection Agents compatible with IT Data Analytics

The following Collection Agent versions are compatible with this release of IT Data Analytics:

  • 2.7.00
  • 2.5.00

The preceding versions apply to both standalone Collection Agents and Collection Agents available for the PATROL infrastructure.

For more information, see Setting up Collection Agents.

Administering integrations

For integrating with a supported BMC product (or external system), you need to first create an external configuration by navigating to Administration > External Configurations. Doing this is necessary to register details of the supported product with IT Data Analytics so that IT Data Analytics can easily communicate with the external system.

For some integrations, creating an external configuration is not applicable. In these scenarios, you need to register details of the IT Data Analytics server on the supported product. After the integration completes, details of the integrated product is displayed on the External Configurations tab.

On the External Configurations tab, the following details are available:

FieldDescription
NameName used while creating the external configuration.
HostHost name of the server (external system) with which you want to connect.
External ConfigurationKind of external configuration; for example, TrueSight Presentation Server.
TypeFunctions for which the external configuration is created; for example, Notification & Collection.
