The following sections describe the prerequisites that you must perform before you upgrade BMC ProactiveNet to Infrastructure Management:
Prerequisite | Section |
---|---|
Review the general prerequisites such as the system requirements and recommendations before you upgrade the product. | |
Ensure that you back up the database so that you can restore the database with if the upgrade fails. | |
Review the requirements for Microsoft .NET Framework. | |
Ensure that you disable any custom schedulers | Disabling custom schedulers |
Migrate the configuration of cells. |
The following are some of the general prerequisites that you must review before upgrading:
Ensure to stop access to BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management Sybase or Oracle database by other BMC products (For example, Infrastructure Management Performance Management Reporting or BMC Capacity Optimization) or third party products. Once the upgrade is done, you can resume the access.
Note
Build to build upgrade is not supported.
The following are the database prerequisites that you must review before upgrading:
pw log period list –stats
BMC recommends that you archive the BMC ProactiveNet Server database before upgrading to Infrastructure Management 9.6.00.
Note
You cannot automatically upgrade BMC ProactiveNet Server with a Sybase database to a BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server with Oracle database or BMC ProactiveNet Server with a Oracle database to a BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server with OSybase database.
Please contact BMC Services Account Manager or BMC Support.
Sybase database
If you use Sybase as the database, run the pw database archive
command, as shown in the following example:
pw database archive <archiveDirectory>
archiveDirectory represents the directory where you want to archive the database files. Ensure that the directory has sufficient disk space to store the database. For additional information about the pw database archive
command, see pw database archive.
Tip
If the upgrade to Infrastructure Management 9.6.00 fails, run the pw database restore
command to restore the database from the archive directory. For more information about the pw database restore
command, see pw database restore.
Oracle database
If you use Oracle database as the database, you must back up the Oracle database schema related to BMC ProactiveNet before upgrading to Infrastructure Management. It allows you to restore the database without any loss of data if the upgrade fails.
On the existing BMC ProactiveNet Server that has Microsoft Windows as the operating system, ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.0 is installed as it is required to use the SCOM adapter. During the BMC ProactiveNet Server upgrade to Infrastructure Management Server, an error message is displayed if Microsoft .NET Framework is not installed.
To install .NET Framework on Windows 2008, use the Role Management tool. For more information about how to install the .NET Framework, see the Microsoft web site.
Note
The installation of .NET Framework might take several minutes to complete.
