This section provides sizing information for the BMC Dashboards for BSM environment.

Sizing factors

The sizing factors for BMC Dashboards for BSM are:

  • Number of concurrent users
  • CI/request ratio (number of CIs per incident/change/problem/service requests/SLM ticket)

The sizing assumes an average report file size of 500 KB.

Deployment size

Number of concurrent users

CI/request ratio
Small< 25< 2,000
Medium25 - 502,000 – 5,000
Large50 - 100> 5,000

Hardware sizing

This section describes hardware sizing for a single-server deployment, a dual-server deployment, and a clustered deployment. In a single-server deployment, the Dashboard server and the Data Integration Layer (DIL) are installed on the same computer. In a dual-server deployment, they are installed on separate computers. In a clustered deployment, the BMC Atrium DIL Data Integration Layer and the BMC Dashboards for BSM application server component are installed on separate computers, and either the BMC Atrium DIL component is clustered or both the BMC Atrium DIL component and the BMC Dashboards server component are clustered.

Clustered Deployment

Performance degradation can occur in a single-server deployment when there are more than 50 concurrent users. To support a large deployment with 100 concurrent users, BMC Software recommends that you have a BMC Atrium DIL clustered deployment.

The following table contains the typical configuration of a clustered node.

RAM4 GB4 GB
Diskspace50 GB50 GB

As the number of concurrent users increases, the cluster can be horizontally scaled to support the load. The following table shows the recommended number of clustered nodes for the number of concurrent users in your environment.
