When to use Specify path to $OEM$ directory

To define computer settings in a system package for Microsoft Windows operating system other than Windows 2008, you must specify whether your $OEM$ directory resides directly under the i386 or amd64 directory in the data store.

If you do not check Specify path to $OEM$ directory, your $OEM$ directory (and the drivers it contains) must be located directly beneath the i386 or amd64 directory.
For example, assume your data store root is drive:\pxestore and you are storing your Windows 2003 operating system files in a directory called win2k3. Your $OEM$ directory and its contents must look similar to the following:

However, you might not want to store your drivers directly beneath the i386 or amd64 directory. Instead, you may want to store your drivers in a directory structure similar to the following:

In this case, check Specify path to $OEM$ directory and then specify the location of the $OEM$ directory in Path to $OEM$ directory. The path to the $OEM$ directory is from the root of the data store and does NOT include the $OEM$ directory itself. Continuing with this example, (where drive:\pxestore is the data store root), the Path to $OEM$ directory is: drivers\vendor1\model1
