Installing the BMC AppSight for Windows System

This section describes how to install the BMC AppSight for Windows and .NET System suite. By default, this installs the AppSight System Console, AppSight Code Console, AppSight Server, AppSight Black Box, and AppSight Install Service.

To install the BMC AppSight for Windows System suite:

1. Navigate to the directory where the install files are located and double-click on AppSight Windows System.exe. The Installation Welcome screen is displayed.
2. Click Next. The License Agreement screen is displayed.
3. Click Yes to accept the License Agreement. The Customer Information screen is displayed.
4. Enter your User Name and Company Name.
5. Click Next. The Setup Type screen is displayed.
6. Select from one of the two options:
   • Typical: Installs the standard installation components for BMC AppSight for Windows.
   • Custom: Enables you to select/remove components to install.

     Note

     If you want to install the sample applications to help you test and get started with BMC AppSight for Windows, select the Custom option and then the relevant applications (see the following figure). The sample applications are:

     • ATM - a VB application, including an executable, source code and PDB
     • Fire - a C++ application, including an executable, source code and PDB
     • Identify Trader - a VB.NET application that also uses VB COM+ objects and an Access database
     • NPP - a Windows application (Notepad +)
     
     
7. Click Next to install AppSight components to the default directory (or the destination folder you selected in the previous step).
   If you selected to install the Typical installation option, proceed to step 8. If you selected the Custom installation option and did NOT select the BMC AppSight for Windows Server, proceed to step 9.
8. In the displayed Select folder for the Server files screen, browse to the relevant folder in which AppSight Server files will be installed. Once the destination folder is selected, click Next.
9. The setup process is then started. Depending on your operating system and configuration, various messages are displayed, such as a message informing you that the Black Box is being installed.
10. The Finish screen is then displayed. Select the check box if you want to launch the AppSight System Console upon completion of the installation.
11. Click Finish. After a few seconds you will be prompted to register your version of BMC AppSight, if you selected to launch the application. The Register BMC AppSight dialog is displayed when you first launch the AppSight System Console.
    
    
12. In the Registration type area, select from one of the following:
    • License File: Click Browse... to locate the license file.
    • License Server: Click Browse... to locate the license server on your computer or network. You can also type in the license server name, which does not require the double backslash. 
13. Click OK. After a few seconds the AppSight System Console is displayed.
