BMC AppSight for Windows Black Boxes
The BMC AppSight for Windows Black Box is separated into three installations:
- BMC AppSight Black Box: This is the main Black Box application that functions like the "black box" flight recorder in an aircraft, recording application execution. Recorded information is either saved in a log file on a computer where the Black Box is running or streamed to the AppSight Server and saved in its respective session.
- BMC AppSight Black Box Service: This is the System Service version of the Black Box. It is used for recording the execution of services. Unlike a Black Box, a Black Box Service can start recording before an end-user logs on. For example, the Black Box Service is useful for servers typically working without an end-user logged on.
- BMC AppSight Black Box COM Server: When you install the Black Box COM Server, you also install sample files. The Black Box COM Server can only work in standalone mode (not connected to an AppSight Server).
Note that a Black Box can operate in one of two connection modes:
- Disconnected (known as "standalone mode").
- Connected to an AppSight Server through the default connection of DCOM; there are two additional HTTP connection modes (HTTP Client mode and HTTP Server mode).
