Application classes group together various categories of data in PATROL Knowledge Modules (KMs) and provide functionality in the form of parameters, menu commands, and InfoBoxes.

List of application classes and icons

The following table contains a short description of each application class and a graphic of the icon that represents each application class in PATROL for Amazon Web Services:

Application name and icon

Description

AWS

Acts as a container for all the Amazon Web Services account instances.

AWS_ACCOUNT

Provides data about your Amazon Web Services account. The AWS application class instance is created for each Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) account.

AWS_EBS

Provides data for the block storage used by the application class instance AWS_EBS. This application class instance appears in a detached state under the AWS_ACCOUNT instance. When attached, this application class can also appear under an AWS_EC2 application class instance.

AWS_EC2

Provides data about CPU, network traffic, and disk space used by the Amazon EC2 instance. An AWS_EC2 application instance is created for each Amazon EC2 instance. An AWS_EC2 instance is sometimes attached to and appears under an AWS_ELB instance, or it can appear under the AWS_ACCOUNT, when not attached to an Elastic Load Balancing (ELB) instance.

AWS_EC2_CPU

Provides data about the CPU used by the Amazon EC2 instance. An AWS_EC2_CPU application instance is created for each Amazon EC2 instance.

AWS_EC2_DISK

Provides data about the disk space used by the Amazon EC2 instance. An AWS_EC2_DISK application instance is created for each Amazon EC2 instance.

AWS_EC2_NETWORK

Provides data for the network traffic used by the Amazon EC2 instance. An AWS_Network application instance is created for each Amazon EC2 instance.

AWS_ELB

Provides data for the Elastic Load Balancer used by the Amazon EC2 instance. An AWS_ELB application instance is created for each Amazon EC2 instance.

AWS_RDS

Provides data for the Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS). An AWS_RDS application instance is created for each Amazon EC2 instance.

AWS_SQS

Provides data for message queues.

AWS_SNS

Provides data about notifications.

AWS_MEM_CACHE

Provides data about memory usage, CPU utilization, and network traffic for Cache Cluster node. This metric is measured and published for each Cache node.

AWS_MEM_STATS

Provides data for the metrics retrieved from Memcached stats command provided by Amazon ElastiCache. This metric is measured and published for each Cache node.

AWS_CACHE

Provides cache level metrics which are measured and published for each Cache node.

AWS_ECN

Provides data about Cache, Memcache, and the Memcached stats command used by the Cache Cluster node.

AWS_ECC

Provides data for Cache Clusters.

Icon hierarchy

The Amazon Web Services application class or the AWS application class is the parent application class that contains all other application classes for PATROL for Amazon Web Services .

The following figure shows the icon hierarchy of PATROL for AWS.
