BMC TrueSight Operations Management version 10.1.00 offers the following key features and enhancements:

TrueSight console name change

The console is renamed from TrueSight Operations Management to TrueSight.

New dashlets

The following new dashlets are added:

DashletFunctionPrerequisite Product
Application Client BreakdownDisplays the average application end-to-end time or number of hits, by browser type or platform. App Visibility Manager
Application Server HealthDisplays key performance indicators for any application server that is monitored by App Visibility.App Visibility Manager
Top Real TransactionsDisplays the most impacted (by latency or errors), or most used, real transactions for applications monitored by App Visibility.App Visibility Manager
IT Data AnalyticsDisplays statistical data to help users perform a fast root cause analysis and quickly resolve applications-related problems. IT Data Analytics
Device Count by SeverityDisplays the health of the devices as a chart based on the severity count from applications, groups, or device types.Infrastructure Management Server
Device Performance Displays the performance metrics of a device based on the selected parameters. You are allowed to view a maximum of up to four parameters for a device. Only a single device can be selected at any time.Infrastructure Management Server
Event CountDisplays the event count as a chart from applications, groups, or devices. This dashlet displays an event count chart based on the selected status and severity.Infrastructure Management Server
Event ListDisplays the list of events based on the selected filter criteria. You can view the list of dashlets assigned to yourself or other users, based on the filter criteria.Infrastructure Management Server
Top Impacted DevicesDisplays the top impacted devices in your IT environment as a chart based on the event severity. The event count from different severities compared against each top impacted device is shown in the bar segments.Infrastructure Management Server

New dashboard global filters

Two new global filters are added to the dashboard view, Time Period and Application. With these filters, users can change the context of all dashlets in a dashboard without having to edit the dashboard or the dashlets. The Application filter options override the default dashlet configurations.

Enhancement to the Event Preferences menu

The Show rows with severity colors field is now changed to Show severity colors for in the Event Preferences menu of the Events page. You can match the color of the icons, icons and text, or background of the event rows with that of the event severity levels. For more information, see Customizing the display of the event list.

New event groups filter type

You can use a new advanced filter type called event groups to combine events based on certain criteria or conditions. Event groups support role based access control (RBAC) and they can be shared with other users. For more information, see Using event groups.

View events from a remote cell

By default, the Events page of the TrueSight console shows events from all Infrastructure Management Servers. You can now select a remote cell as an event source and view and manage these events on the Events page. This feature enables you to view the events that are not propagated by the remote cell to the Infrastructure Management Servers. Also, you do not need to launch the Infrastructure Management console anymore to view these events. You must apply the  TrueSight Infrastructure Management 10.0.500 Open link update to get events from the remote cell. For more information, see Viewing events from a remote cell.

Support for application root node drill-down

You can click the top-level root node in the application model to understand the overall health of end-user transactions and synthetic transactions. This feature enables you to view only those events that are directly associated with the application in the Events tab of the application node drill down area. An event generated due to an application performance or reliability issue from the synthetic transaction monitoring qualifies as an event that is directly associated with the application. You can cross launch to BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics from an event directly associated with the application. Application level events are generated by synthetic transaction monitoring, and BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics notifications. For more information, see Viewing an application model.

Manually set up end-user monitoring

As an application specialist, you can monitor end-user data for any kind of HTML pages by manually inserting a JavaScript stub in your applications. You might want to use this option to collect data from application pages with any web technology, including technologies that App Visibility agents do not support, such as static pages, PHP, or Node.js. For more information, see Manually setting up end-user monitoring. If your application is already in the TrueSight console as a manual application, download the end-user monitoring script from the Application Management page. For more information, see To view the applications to be managed.

Added MongoDB database reporting

App Visibility Manger expands database discovery and monitoring to include MongoDB, a NoSQL database. For more information about the Database tier, see Analyzing database problems with the Database tier.

View configuration details of manual applications

You can view performance and availability event thresholds based on service-level agreement (SLA) parameters of manual applications that use end-user monitoring. You can view these details from the Transactions tab of the Application Configuration page. For more information see Viewing the configuration details of an application.

Better App Visibility server performance with PostgreSQL database

For better performance, the App Visibility server components now use a PostgreSQL database. New installations of the portal and collector components include the PostgreSQL database. When you upgrade server components to the current version, your data is migrated from the MySQL database to the PostgreSQL database.

Easier page navigation with breadcrumbs

With breadcrumb page titles, you can easily move between the drill-down pages of the Application View. For details, see Navigating the interface.

API for retrieving data from App Visibility Manager

The Reporting API for App Visibility Manager uses Representational State Transfer (REST) web services that enable you to collect data about applications, servers, transactions, and application health. You can use the data to generate your own reports. For more information, see Generating report data for App Visibility Manager.

Support for applications running on Java 1.8

The App Visibility agent for Java can now monitor applications running on Java 1.8.

Support for IPv6 for high availability deployments

You can now install the Presentation Server in the high availability mode on the IPv6 enabled host. For more information, see BMC TrueSight Operations Management high availability deployment.

Support for new operating systems

The Presentation Server now supports the following operating systems. For information about all supported operating systems, see System requirements.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 (64-bit)
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition (64-bit)

SSO token support for cross-launch to BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics

From TrueSight console, you can cross-launch to BMC TrueSight IT Data Analytics without any additional authentication.

Presentation Server modularization

The Presentation Server now features a modular and component-aware architecture. The navigation pane and list of dashlets are populated based on the components that are registered with the Presentation Server. See Accessing and navigating the console and Dashlet library.

Performance and scalability improvements

Performance improvements have been made to the Presentation Server. A medium size environment is added for sizing purposes. For details, see Sizing the Presentation Server and Performance and scalability.

Presentation Server self-monitoring

As an administrator, you can now set up email alerts about unavailable services or components that enable you to take corrective action quickly. See Monitoring the Presentation Server environment.

Synthetic script management improvements

The following improvements were made in synthetic script management:

  • You can now add a version number to your scripts to help you track changes. For details, see Using scripts to simulate end-user transactions.
  • You can now download scripts from the Scripts list. For details, see Using scripts to simulate end-user transactions.
  • You can now upload scripts directly from Silk Performer. For details, see Silk Performer documentation Open link .

Synthetic Execution Plan improvements

The following improvements were made in synthetic Execution Plans:

  • Extended scheduling functionality is available for synthetic Execution Plans. This includes a random delay setting to stagger the executions so they do not all occur at the same time. For details, see Editing an application's synthetic settings.
  • Blackout settings were redesigned and are now defined at the Execution Plan level. Multiple blackout periods can be defined for each Execution Plan with different blackout periods for different days of the week. For details, see Editing an application's synthetic settings.
  • Execution Plan names and descriptions now support foreign language characters.

Synthetic configuration migration from TrueSight AM Console

Migration of scripts and configurations from BMC TrueSight App Visibility Manager, AM Console version 2.6.10 and later is available. See Migrating synthetic configurations for more details.
