This topic describes the key features in version 8.1.00 of the BMC TrueSight Middleware Administrator product.

New features and changes

Unified message management for WebSphere MQ

Message management for WebSphere MQ has been unified, based on the look-and-feel and capabilities previously used only for managing messages on a queue manager’s dead letter queue. This includes providing a consistent user interface to manage messages for all queues, and also introduces asynchronous message management for all queues for improved performance and user experience.

Editing and converting multiple messages

A new message details view has been added which enables users to display, edit or convert multiple selected messages at a time. This enables the managing of messages in groups, instead of processing each message individually in the message editor, one after the other. This ensures users can easily and more efficiently manage messages and simultaneously process messages that are related by a certain context.

Assigning Product Administrators by group

In previous releases, the managing of Product Administrators required each user to be individually assigned to the role. TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.1.00 has been enhanced to allow the assignment of groups to Product Administrators and therefore efficiently manage multiple users according to the groups they belong.

Unified display and management of tagged objects

Tagged objects are now displayed in a more natural summary view. This replaces the simple list view in previous versions where users were forced to follow the available links to review, manage or edit tagged objects from within their natural summary view or editor. This was disruptive as it caused users to lose the tagging context. TrueSight Middleware Administrator 8.1 enables users to consistently review and manage tagged objects when accessing objects by tag by not only displaying tagged objects as they would appear in their natural summary view but also by providing access to all operations available for these tagged objects.

Importing and exporting objects based on tags

The interface for importing or exporting WebSphere MQ objects has been enhanced to add support for preserving or specifying tagging context. Users can now export WebSphere MQ objects associated to any of their user-defined tags and can import them to another connection, assigning them to any of their existing tags or to a new tag. As an example, middleware administrators or WMQ application developers can now gather relevant WebSphere MQ objects from a test or development environment, assign them to a tag and consistently and easily import them to production environments, while preserving the tagging context and the related grouping.

Optional conversion for message export

When exporting WebSphere MQ messages, users can now select whether or not WMQ message conversion should be applied when saving messages from a WMQ queue to another file.

Specifying a delimiter for message import

The capability to import multiple messages from a file not in the TrueSight Middleware Administrator message file format has been enhanced to enable users to specify a delimiter when importing from a file in order to separate message content. In previous releases this capability was limited to files where each message had to be a single line.

Message origin in export file name

When exporting WebSphere MQ messages to a file, the exported file’s name now references the originating WebSphere MQ connection, in addition to the queue name and export date. This ensures enhanced identification when working with messages for multiple queue managers hosting queues with the same or similar names.

Audit logging of message data

TrueSight Middleware Administrator now supports the ability to enable audit logging of message data for messaging operations for the product. By default, this option is disabled because, while not exposing any message content to users through the UI, it ensures message data is written to the audit log files. While message content is not readable, the JavaScript API has been enhanced to extract message content in a readable format. Product Administrators should be fully aware of the possible implications before enabling this functionality with the product configuration.

Upgrading from previous versions
