Selecting Log Files for Monitoring

Perform the following task to register a log file to select it for monitoring. Common Tuxedo and PeopleSoft log files can be registered from a pick list using the LOG AutoScan Registration command. Any other log file can be registered using the Monitor Another LOG command.

Each registered log file creates a log instance icon under the APPS_LOG application class. A log file must be registered before it can be monitored. Two procedures are described below, one for the common Tuxedo and PeopleSoft log files found by the AutoScan process (see Managing Log Files), and the other for any other type of log file.

This task will select for monitoring all Tuxedo server output files produced by specifying -o servopts in server's CLOPT, or all log files under the PeopleSoft $PS_HOME/appserv//LOGS* and $PS_HOME/appserv/prcs//LOGS* directories.

Warning

Note

Monitoring too many log files or using too many sniff patterns--especially those with wildcards--can degrade performance. 35 files is the recommended maximum for optimal performance.
