Veritas NetBackup - Change History

2009

TKU April 2009

In TKU April 2009, we added registry versioning for Windows. We also added active and file versioning methods for the Unix and Windows platforms. In addition, information about installed/enabled agents and options is stored in Detail nodes, as well as collecting license information which is also stored in Detail nodes.

TKU October 2009

In TKU October 2009 both NetBackup Server and NetBackup Client patterns have been extensively enhanced.

VERITAS NetBackup Server pattern now differentiates (and sets the SI type accordingly) between Master Server, Media Server and SAN Media Server.

File versioning method has been implemented for NetBackup Client's pattern.
The client pattern has also had inetd and xinetd triggers added (UNIX platforms) to allow for the pattern attempting to identify non standalone NetBakcup clients. As this option can have a little bit of impact on Foundation Discovery performance, it has been left disabled by default.
The NetBackup Client pattern can also retrieve a list of Agents that have been active in the last 30 days (time period is configurable. This functionality is user configurable and disabled by default as it is envisaged that it would be used more often on a project basis rather than Business As Usual scenarios.

2010

TKU July 2010

In TKU July 2010 superfluous characters have been removed from the Licensing Detail name attribute; Licensing Details on both platforms have the same common format.

TKU August 2010

In TKU August 2010 the following changes were made:

  • The expiration_date attribute of the Licensing Detail was modified. It now it has format: yyyy/mm/dd.
  • There were some slight changes to prevent race conditions that could occur when the Software Instance was searched for before it was added to the datastore

TKU September 2010

In TKU September 2010 a slight improvement was made to the way the pattern links to remote Software Instances

TKU November 2010

From TKU November 2010 the system will parse the bp.conf file with both non privileged and privileged credentials, providing the user has enabled the latter option. This feature is available on Atrium Discovery version 8.2 and later only

2011

TKU January 2011

In TKU January 2011 the code in the VERITAS NetBackup Server pattern that performs the search for related processes was made more efficient

TKU May 2011

In TKU May 2011 for ADDM 8.2 onwards, privileged cat commands are now always executed regardless of the state of the UNIX privilege execution flag in the configuration section and instead of cat.

TKU June 2011

In TKU June 2011 support for NetBackup Storage Migrator on the UNIX platform was added.

TKU August 2011

In TKU August 2011 the NetBackupClient pattern code which can trigger (if configured by user to try to detect all instances of the NetBackup client) and create SI nodes on ESXi hosts (Atrium Discovery 8.2 and above) was corrected to prevent this from happening.

TKU October 2011

In TKU October 2011 a False positive check was added in the NetBackupServer pattern and Simple Identification of 'vmd' process was made more specific.

2012

TKU March 2012

In TKU March 2012 the mapping table of installed option had one of the mappings corrected (PureDisk Option)

TKU April 2012

In TKU April 2012 module patterns updated slightly to ensure that if this product was identified on ESX Server platform, all the pattern code that should execute will execute.

TKU June 2012

In TKU June 2012 new known versions had been added. Also active versioning regex has been updated slightly.

TKU July 2012

In TKU July 2012 'related_sis_search' function from CommonFunctions module was implemented and search query was improved in NetBackupClient pattern.

2013

TKU February 2013

In TKU July 2013 patterns updated with additional package name regular expressions to cater for newer versions of the product

2014

TKU March 2014

In TKU March 2014 new 'bpcd.exe' process was added into the trigger's list. Updated Client-Server linking code to optimize the discovery.

TKU December 2014

In TKU Dec 2014 the pattern was updated with:

  • improved, more granular file versioning, and
  • default netbackup_home path (C:\Program Files\Veritas\).

2015 - 2019

TKU January 2015

In TKU January 2015, the pattern was updated with the following changes:

  • improved version handling to take into account service packs and patches (QM001866950).
  • updated trigger process to discover Symantec NetBackup v6.5.6  on Linux and Solaris servers (QM001866140).
  • added support for Symantec NetBackup v7.6 version.
  • added edition attribute to SoftwareInstance to distinguish Standard and Enterprise editions (TKU-2907, TKU-2908).
  • removed priv_function and priv_execution options from the configuration block.

  • improved process to obtain license name.

  • improved license key extraction process (on UNIX platform it runs in a privileged mode as required).

  • added licensing detail node to discover the following licensing options (TKU-2909):
    • Symantec NetBackup SAP Agent,
    • Symantec NetBackup Option NDMP,
    • Symantec NetBackup Data Protection Optimization Option,
    • Symantec NetBackup Enterprise Disk,
    • Symantec NetBackup Library Based Tape Drive, and
    • Symantec NetBackup Platform Base Complete.

TKU February 2015

In TKU February 2015 the pattern was updated with the following changes:

  • Privilege command execution configuration using the pattern configuration block has been deprecated. A recommended method through the BMC Atrium Discovery platform configuration is described here.

TKU March 2018

In TKU March 2018 the publisher was changed from 'Symantec VERITAS' to 'Veritas'.

TKU April 2019

In TKU April 2019 the following changes were made:
