Veritas NetBackup was originally called Aria*BackupPlus (v1.0 of which was released, by Control Data, in 1993); This is why many NetBackup commands have a 'bp' prefix.
Control Data's Storage Management team was acquired by Openvision in late 1993. This is why, on UNIX platforms, NetBackup installs into /usr/openv. During this time, Openvision renamed Backup Plus to NetBackup.
On May 6, 1997 Veritas acquired Openvision.
