Viewing a management controller

A management controller in BMC Discovery represents a chassis controller on a blade enclosure, or a lights-out management board on a host. The chassis controller/lights-out management board is currently discovered using SNMP.

To view a management controller

  1. From the main menu, select Explore > Data.
    The Infrastructure page opens.
  2. In the Hosts & Host Containers section, click Management Controllers.
  3. Select a management controller from the list, as illustrated in the following screen. 

The following table describes information fields for a typical management controller.

Field name

Details

System Name

Name of this management controller; for example, iDRAC-C1KN95J.

Type

The type of management controller; for example, Remote Access Controller.

Vendor

The hardware vendor name of this management controller; for example, Dell.

Model

The model name of this management controller; for example, iDRAC.

Testing Status

Whether the exact device has been tested by BMC. This can be either:

  • EXACT—BMC has tested the SNMP queries used to discover this device on a device of exactly this model.
  • SIMILAR—BMC has tested the SNMP queries used to discover this device on a device that is similar, but not identical, to this device. For example, the queries might have been tested on a device from the same family of devices from the same vendor, but not on this exact model.

Serial ID

The serial number of this management controller; for example, 417P95J.

Name

The sysname of this management controller; for example, iDRAC-C1KN95J.

System Object ID

The SNMP System Object ID of the management controller; for example, 1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10892.2

OS Class

The OS class of this management controller; for example, UNIX.

OS Type

The OS type of this management controller; for example, GNU/Linux.

OS Version

The OS version of this management controller; for example, 2.6 kernel.

Network Interfaces

Provides the following details for each network interface:

  • Name—The name of the network interface.
  • Description—A description of the network interface.
  • MAC Address—The MAC address of the network interface which is also a link to the page for that network interface.
  •  Details—The interface speed. A red x icon is displayed where an interface has some mismatch (speed, duplex, or negotiation) with the network device that it is connected to.
  • Connected To—The network device that the network interface is connected to. A red x icon is displayed where the network device port has some mismatch (speed, duplex, or negotiation) with the interface connected to it.
  • Show details—Click Show Details to reveal more information on the network interfaces. Where a mismatch has been flagged in the Connected To or Details fields, the reason is highlighted.
  • Show All nnn—Click Show All nnn to show all of the available networking interfaces.

IPv4 Addresses

The name and IPv4 address of the network device. Click Show Details to see Netmask and Broadcast information.

IPv6 Addresses

The name and IPv6 address of the network device. Click Show Details to see Prefix information.

Managed Host

Details of the host that the management controller is managing.

  • Name—The name of the host.
  • OS—The OS of the host.
  • Hardware Vendor—The hardware vendor for the host.
  • Virtual—Whether or not the host is virtual.
  • Partition—The name of the host.
  • Scanned via—The IP address through which the host was scanned.
