Registering an Outpost with the BMC Helix Discovery service

After you install and start the BMC Discovery Outpost, you must register it with your BMC Helix Discovery service. 

Before you begin

Complete the procedure to download and install the BMC Discovery Outpost as explained in Downloading and installing a BMC Discovery Outpost.

To register with the BMC Helix Discovery service

  1. Make sure that you have a browser page logged into the BMC Helix Discovery service and a browser page logged into the BMC Discovery Outpost UI.



  2. In the BMC Discovery Outpost browser, go to the Home page and click Register an Instance
    The Manage Registrations page is displayed.



  3. (Optional) If you need to access the BMC Helix Discovery service through an HTTP(S) proxy:
    1. Click Configure HTTP Proxy.
    2. Enter the following information into the HTTP Proxy Configuration dialog:
      • Proxy URL
      • User name
      • Password
    3. Click OK.
  4. Copy the BMC Discovery Outpost token. To do this, in the This is this Outpost's token section, click Copy To Clipboard.
  5. In the BMC Helix Discovery service browser page, select Manage > Outposts.
  6. In the Manage > Outposts page, paste the token from the BMC Discovery Outpost into the This is the Outpost's token field. 
    When you do so, the following fields are automatically filled:

    • Name

    • Key


    When the fields are filled, the Outpost token has been accepted. 

    Note

    If the fields are not automatically filled, then you should go back to the BMC Discovery Outpostcarefully copy the key, and try again.

  7. Click Add
    The BMC Discovery Outpost has been registered in the BMC Helix Discovery Service.
  8. Copy the BMC Helix Discovery service's token. In the This is this service's token sectionclick Copy to Clipboard.
  9. Switch to the BMC Discovery Outpost browser, on the Manage Registrations page.
  10. Paste the token from the BMC Helix Discovery service into the This is the instance's token field. When you do so, the following fields are automatically filled:
    • Service Name
    • Service Key
    • Service Address



    When the fields are filled, the Service token has been accepted. 

    Note

    If the fields are not automatically filled, then you should go back to the BMC Helix Discovery service, carefully copy the key, and try again.

  11. Click Add

    The BMC Helix Discovery service has been registered in the BMC Discovery Outpost.
