Oracle VM is a free, next-generation server virtualization and management solution that makes enterprise applications easier to deploy, manage, and support. Backed worldwide by affordable enterprise-quality support for both Oracle and non-Oracle environments, Oracle VM facilitates the deployment and operation of your enterprise applications on a fully certified platform to reduce operations and support costs while simultaneously increasing IT efficiency and agility.
Oracle VM is based on Xen Source Xen system that is structured with the Xen hypervisor as the lowest and most privileged layer.
Above this layer are one or more guest operating systems, which the hypervisor schedules across the physical CPUs. The first guest operating system, called "domain 0" (dom0), is booted automatically when the hypervisor boots and given special management privileges and direct access to the physical hardware. The system administrator logs into dom0 in order to start any further VirtualMachine in so called "domainU" (domU) in Oracle VM terminology.
