Discovery Condition Solaris 11 Command Line Truncation

Impact

Discovered processes may lack some command line arguments, patterns may not trigger

Description

The standard Solaris /usr/bin/ps command limits command line arguments to a maximum of 80 characters. In order to avoid this limitation, BMC Atrium Discovery attempts to run the command with BSD style arguments and/or use the /usr/bin/pargs command. Both of these commands require that the user has the proc_owner privilege in order to report all command line arguments.

Resolution

Administrators can resolve this issue by granting the proc_owner privilege to the Discovery user or by running /usr/bin/ps and/or /usr/bin/pargs as a user or profile which does.
