Installing the product license key and allocating user licenses

Before you can entitle users to services, you must apply a product license key to the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server and add the registered number of fixed user licenses to the tenant workspace. You can perform the licensing tasks from the command line via a shell script, or through the Remedy Mid Tier graphical interface.

Before you begin

Load the setup data, as described in Loading-the-BMC-Digital-Workplace-Catalog-tenant-setup-data

To prepare to install a license key and manage the user license count

  1. Obtain a server license key from BMC Support Central. See: Obtaining-Remedy-license-keys.
  2. Verify the required quantity of fixed user licenses; you require a fixed license for each user account that is used to log in to the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog application.
  3. Obtain credentials for the following accounts that will access the system:

    User account

    Example name | password

BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server administrator

    dwpinstaller | Passw0rd!

BMC Digital Workplace Catalog application administrator

    dwpadmin | Passw0rd!

BMC Digital Workplace Catalog tenant administrator

    hannah_admin@calbroservices.com | Passw0rd!
    hannah_admin@petramco.com | Passw0rd!

  4. (Optional) To perform licensing tasks by using a graphical interface, configure a Remedy Mid Tier with access to manage the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server. For information, see Setting-up-a-Remedy-Mid-Tier-for-system-administration-of-the-BMC-Digital-Workplace-Catalog-server.

To perform licensing tasks from the command line

You can run a script on the server to install the server license key and set the fixed user license quantity.

  1. Log on to the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server.
  2. Go to the license installation script folder inside the folder where you extracted the installation files; for example: ~/Downloads/extracted_installation_files/apply_dwp_license.
  3. Run the apply_dwp_license.sh script and enter the requested details. If multiple tenants share the same BMC Digital Workplace Catalog application, you can run the apply_dwp_license.sh script for each tenant without applying a product license key.

Example: Install a server license key of GKB-1977 and set the quantity of fixed user licenses for the Calbro Services tenant to 5000:

Example of the apply_dwp_license.sh script prompts
    $ ./apply_dwp_license.sh
Enter the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog system administrator login name (dwpadmin): dwpadmin
    Password for dwpadmin: *********
Enter the tenant administrator login name (hannah_admin@calbroservices.com): hannah_admin@calbroservices.com
    Password for hannah_admin@calbroservices.com: *********
Do you want to add a BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server license (y/n): y
Enter the sever license key: GKB-1977
Enter the number of Fixed user licenses that are assigned to this tenant: 5000

Example: Use the same licensed server as Calbro Services, and set the quantity of fixed user licenses for the Petramco tenant to 2500:

Example of the apply_dwp_license.sh script prompts
    $ ./apply_dwp_license.sh
Enter the BMC Digital Workplace Catalog system administrator login name (dwpadmin): dwpadmin
    Password for dwpadmin: *********
Enter the tenant administrator login name (hannah_admin@calbroservices.com): hannah_admin@petramco.com
    Password for hannah_admin@calbroservices.com: *********
Do you want to add a BMC Digital Workplace Catalog server license (y/n): n
Enter the number of Fixed user licenses that are assigned to this tenant: 2500

To perform licensing tasks by using Remedy Mid Tier

If you prefer to perform the licensing tasks in a graphical interface, you can use the Remedy Mid Tier..
