Copying services from another system
You can export services from one BMC Digital Workplace Catalog system as a zip archive, and import the zip archive to create new services in your catalog. The zip archive contains the catalog profiles, workflows, questions, and other metadata for all versions of the services. Use this method to create backups of services, or to copy services to other environments. For example, you might export services from the development server and import the services to the staging and production servers.
Data migration
Data migration via export and import is helpful when you are building services in an environment that progresses through different cycles. For instance, you create services on a a development server, migrate the services to a staging server for field testing, and publish to a production server for release.
When migrating your data, take into account the following considerations:
- You might not be able to import services that were exported from a different version of BMC Digital Workplace Catalog .
- The workflows attached to services imported through the BMC Remedy service connector cannot be edited. These services can be transferred only between systems that are connected to the exact same BMC IT Service Management system.
To export services from your service catalog
- Go to Service Management > My Services.
- Select one or more services from the table.
- Click Actions > Export.
After a few moments, you will be offered the zip archive to download to your computer.
To import services from another service catalog
- Go to Service Management > My Services.
- Click Import From File.
- Choose the zip file to import from your computer.
If the import is successful, all versions and revisions of the services are imported in the same states as they were before being exported. Published service revisions can be entitled through virtual marketplaces immediately.
After importing services, you might need to update the workflows attached to each service to ensure that the correct service connector Connection ID is selected.
