Permissions required for Windows installations

This topic provides a comprehensive list of the permissions required to install the Windows products in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management. It provides useful links to other help topics that describe how to perform a specific task, for example, configuring a trust relationship.

Note

These permissions apply to BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management installer host and all target hosts. For more information, see System requirements for Windows.

The following information is provided:

Installer host permissions

Note

You need your local Windows Administrator credentials to perform all the installations. For more information, see System requirements for Windows .

The user must be:

  • The local Administrator of the system (not a domain user).
  • Added to the Administrators group on the system.

Target host permissions

The following target host permissions are required when installing specific products:

ProductPermissions required
All productsMake sure that the Administrator user exists on all target hosts.
NSH and RSCD Agent
  • Domain user credentials (even though they have admin permissions) are not supported during the RSCD installation using the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management installer.
  • You must configure a trust relationship between the installer host and the target host if FTP is not configured. Your computer must be synced with the domain controller.
Microsoft SQL Server

When installing BMC AR System Server – Cloud Portal and Database – Primary (Enterprise AR):

  • Configure credentials for the startup account of the Microsoft SQL Server service.
  • For remote database installations, ensure that the Administrator user is added to the Administrators group of the target Enterprise AR server.

The credentials are required as part of the Suite Stack Installer (SSI). The SSI installer restores a database image on the SQL Server database. Since SQL Server is on a remote host, Microsoft requires that  the additional configurations be performed and permissions provided in order for the restore operation to be successful. You do not need these credentials for the Cloud Database server.

You must have administrator privileges for actions, such as setting system environment variables and restarting services. Therefore, having only administrator privileges is not enough. You must set the User Account Control (UAC) to disable the Administrator Approval Mode.
