Creating tenant companies and users by using BMC Remedy ITSM Foundation

The use of tenants in the cloud allows a company or service provider to both segregate groups in the cloud and to control the visibility and permissions for offerings in the Service Catalog that are available to tenant users.

Tenants have two types of users:

  • Cloud end users can use the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management My Cloud Services Console to request services hosted in the portion of the cloud assigned to the tenant company. Cloud end users can see only their own services in the BMC My Cloud Services Console. For more information, see Cloud end user.
  • Cloud organization administrators or tenant administrators can use the BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management My Cloud Services Console to see and manipulate any and all services created by cloud end users of their own company. For more information, see Cloud tenant administrator.

Before you begin

A cloud administrator user account and company must exist, as described in Creating the cloud administrator user and the provider company or Updating an existing user account with cloud administrator permissions.

To create tenant companies and users

  1. Go to BMC Remedy ITSM - Application Administration Console.
The Application Administration Console is part of BMC ITSM Foundation.
  2. Create the company for the tenant, as described in Configuring companies.
When creating a tenant company, you must select Customer as the company type.
  3. (Optional) Create the organization, as described in Creating organizations.
When configuring a company, you may want to create an organization. Although this information will be required for creating users, however, BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management does not use organization information.
  4. (Optional) Create the location, as described in Creating locations.
When configuring a company, you may want to create a location. Although this information will be required for creating users, however, BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management does not use location information.
  5. To create a cloud end user, follow the instructions in Adding people records from a template and select the Cloud End User template.

    Note

Cloud users of all types require a fixed license.

    In the People form:

    1. Select Fixed License as the License Type.

    2. Ensure that you clear the Unrestricted Access Yes check box in the lower-right corner. Otherwise, the user will be able to see data records for other companies.

    3. Click the Update Access Restrictions button and select the company for the user to ensure that the user can see only data records for the selected company.

    4. (Optional) Add permission groups to the user either manually or by selecting additional templates.

  6. To create a cloud organization administrator, follow the instructions in Adding people records from a template and select the Cloud Organization Admin template.
    In the People form:

    1. Select Fixed License as the License Type.

    2. Ensure that you clear the Unrestricted Access Yes check box in the lower-right corner. Otherwise, the user will be able to see data records for other companies.

    3. Click the Update Access Restrictions button and select the company for the tenant administrator to ensure that the cloud organization administrator can see only data records for the selected company.

    4. (Optional) Add permission groups to the user either manually or by selecting additional templates.

When you are creating users, the permissions are hierarchical. You do not need to add cloud end user permissions to the cloud organization administrator account.

After creating a tenant company and its users, you must import the company in BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management, as described in Creating and importing tenants.

You can also add users after onboarding the company.
