20.02.01: Patch 1 for TrueSight Capacity Optimization 20.02

This topic contains information about fixes and updates provided in this patch. It also provides instructions for downloading and applying the patch.  

Before you install this patch, you must have previously installed the base version (20.02) of the product. Patches are cumulative and contain all updates released after the base version.

Enhancements

This patch provides the following enhancements: 

Support for negative reservations

The Reservations feature is enhanced to support negative reservations. You can now cancel some of the resources that are already reserved for a specific tenant.

  • A new option, Cancel previously reserved resources, is added to the Reservations UI to create a negative reservation. For details, see Managing Reservations.

  • While creating or updating a reservation using the Reservation API, you can now specify a new request parameter, Metadata, to provide additional information about the reservation. For details, see Reservation API.

  • You can specify the negative reservation information in the XML file that can be imported into TrueSight Capacity Optimization using the Generic - Reservation XML file parser. For details, see Preparing to integrate reservations by importing XML files.

Extended coverage for data collection

Metrics for VMware vSAN

The VMware vCenter Extractor Service now collects VMware vSAN metrics for cluster, hosts, virtual machines, and datastores. For details, see Lookup information and metrics for VMware ETLs.

Metrics for Transaction data

The BMC - TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser now imports transaction metrics as subresource metrics of workloads. For details, see Entity relationship, metrics and lookup information for BMC - TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser.

New ETL to import data from ElasticSearch

The new ElasticSearch ETL enables you to collect capacity-relevant data from ElasticSearch. For details, see Moviri Integrator for TrueSight Capacity Optimization - ElasticSearch.

New out-of-the-box capacity view for Red Hat Ceph systems 

The new Red Hat Ceph Systems view provides storage views to verify the memory utilization and capacity utilization of your Red Hat Ceph servers and determine if they can meet future allocation requirements. For details, see Ceph Systems view.

Downloading the patch 

To access the EPD website, you must provide your BMC Support credentials. You must be licensed for the product to access the download page. You may be prompted to complete the Export Compliance Form.

Use the EPD links in the following sections to access the installation files on the EPD website. From the EPD page, download the installation files for your platform.

Error rendering macro 'table-plus'

Failed to transform the HTML macro template for display. Nested message: The XML content could not be parsed. There is a problem at line 2, column 4090. Parser message: Undeclared namespace prefix "footnotes" at [row,col {unknown-source}]: [2,4090]

Applying the patch

The patch is applicable for the following TrueSight Capacity Optimization components: Application Server, ETL Engine, Capacity Agent, and Gateway Server. 

Warning

Before applying this patch, ensure that you have an OS backup or a VM snapshot of servers on which the components are installed.

Applying the Patch consists of the following steps:

  1. Apply Patch to the Application Server and ETL Engine
  2. Apply Patch to the Gateway Server
  3. Apply Patch to the Capacity Agent
  4. Reinstall the Capacity Optimization plugin

Step 1: Apply Patch to the Application Server and ETL Engine

Apply the Patch to the Application Server.


  1. In the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console, navigate to Administration > System > Maintenance Patches.
  2. In the Upload patch or additional package file section, click Choose File.
  3. Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the install files, select the TSCO_AppServer_ver20.02.01_AS.zip file, and click Upload to apply the patch to the Application Server.

  4. On the Step 1 of 2: Overview page, click Next.
  5. On the Step 2 of 2: Hosts selection page, select the required hosts to be updated.
  6. Click Proceed
    The patch file is deployed automatically.
    The TrueSight Capacity Optimization console is stopped and restarted during the update, which can take up to 15 minutes to complete.

BApply the Patch to the ETL Engine.
  1. In the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console, navigate to Administration > System > Maintenance Patches.
  2. In the Upload patch or additional package file section, click Choose File.
  3. Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the install files, select the TSCO_AppServer_ver20.02.01_EE.zip  file, and click Upload to apply the patch to the ETL Engine.
  4. On the Step 1 of 2: Overview page, click Next.
  5. On the Step 2 of 2: Hosts selection page, select the required hosts to be updated.
  6. Click Proceed
    The patch file is deployed automatically.

CPerform this task if Sentry or Moviri ETL modules and capacity views are already configured in your environment.
  1. Download the latest Sentry and Moviri packages from EPD. For more information, see Sentry and Moviri Integrators Open link .
  2. In the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console, redeploy the Moviri and Sentry ETL modules. For details, see the Installing additional packages section in Performing system maintenance tasks.
  3. Reinstall the Storage, Hadoop, and Network views. For more information, see Installing capacity views.

Step 2: Apply Patch to the Gateway Server

Apply the Patch to the Gateway Server.
  1. Log in to the system where the Gateway Server is installed.
  2. Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the installation files.
  3. Extract the files:
    • (Windows) Extract TSCO_GatewayServer_ver20.02.01_MSWindows.zip
    • (Linux) tar -xvf TSCO_GatewayServer_ver20.02.01_Linux_x86-64.tar
  4. Run the following command to apply the patch:
    • (Windows) BPAPatchTool.cmd
    • (Linux) ./BPAPatchTool.sh
  5. Select the package and follow the instructions.

Step 3: Apply the Patch to the TrueSight Capacity Agent OR install/upgrade the Continuous Optimization Agent

Apply the Patch to the existing TrueSight Capacity Agent OR install/upgrade BMC Helix Continuous Optimization Agent, as applicable.

  1. Log in to the system where the Capacity Agent is installed.
  2. Navigate to the directory where you downloaded the installation files.
  3. Extract the files:
    • (Windows) Extract TSCO_Agent_ver20.02.01_MSWindows.zip
    • (Linux) docker load -i tsco-agent-linux-x86_64_20.02.01.0.0.tar.gz
  4. Run the following command to apply the patch:
    • (Windows) TSCOAgentPatchTool.ps1
    • (Linux) docker run -d --pid=host --network=host --ipc=host --privileged -v /:/host:ro tsco-agent-vol:/usr/adm/best1_agent_workspace bmcsoftware/tsco-agent-linux-x86_64_20.02.01.0.0.tar.gz
  5. Select the package and follow the instructions.

Install or upgrade the BMC Helix Continuous Optimization Agent

(Applicable for the BMC Helix Continuous Optimization Agents only)

Step 4: Reinstall the Capacity Optimization plugin
