Preparing to upgrade

Before you upgrade the Remedy ITSM suite, review this topic and ensure that:

  • You can start and stop the Remedy Action Request System (AR System) server without any errors. See Starting and stopping the BMC Remedy AR System server.
  • The following database tables do not contain any duplicate or invalid server names:
    • AR_System_Server_Group_Operati
    • AR_System_Service_Failover_Ran
    • AR_System_Service_Failover_Whi
    • servgrp_board
  • (Linux) You apply a fix to avoid an installer error as described in the knowledge article DOC-123958 on BMC communities.
  • (Linux) Preparation for nonroot installation is complete. See Preparing to install as a nonroot user.
  • The prerequisites for platform upgrade are met, as described in the knowledge article Prerequisite for upgrading AR System platform upgrade on BMC communities.
  • You have installed Apache Tomcat 7.0.53 or later. If you are using an older version of Tomcat, you should stop the existing Tomcat service, install the latest version of Tomcat, and start the upgrade.


    If you are changing the Tomcat directory when performing the upgrade, delete the <tomcat_installation_directory>/conf/Catalina/localhost/arsys.xml file from the previous Tomcat application after the upgrade is successful.
