Remedy Smart Reporting checks

During installation or upgrade, BMC Remedy Configuration Check utility is automatically run for Remedy Smart Reporting. Consult the information in this topic for the expected result of each check and the corrective action you should take if a check fails.

The configuration check report (configchecheckerOutput.html) for Remedy Smart Reporting is located in <InstallDirectory>/ARSystem/configchecker/result. On the Details tab of configuration check report, click Click Here For Help to view the detailed description of preupgrade checks.

RAM availability check

Description	Determines if the server has at least 16 GB RAM available for installing and running of Remedy Smart Reporting.
Type	Preupgrade check, configuration check
Check performed and expected result	If the available RAM is 16 GB or more, the check is successful. If the available RAM is less than 16 GB, the check fails and displays a warning.
Corrective action	Close all unnecessary applications that are consuming memory. Increase memory on the system to ensure that there is at least 16 GB memory free at the time of installation or upgrade.

Temp space availability check

Description	Validates the temporary space that is available to the partition. A minimum of 1 GB free temporary space is required.
Type	Preupgrade check, configuration check
Check performed and expected result	If the available free space is at least 1 GB, the check is successful. If the available free space is less than 1 GB, the check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective action	Ensure that 1GB or more temporary space is available on the partition. Note: You must provide the path of the Temp directory to this check as an input in one of the following ways Set the <tempDir> variable in the configuration file (configchecker_config.xml). Enter the path in the Temp Dir field in GUI mode.

Operating System (OS) compatibility check

Description	Run all the pre-upgrade checks before you upgrade to a higher version. If you encounter any error or warning, address the issue as it may prevent a successful upgrade. Validates the operating system supported as per the OS support in the compatibility matrix document . This check gets the current version of the OS on which the BMC Remedy Configuration check utility runs and compares it with the minimum supported values. The following are the minimum supported operating system versions: Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 version 6.1 RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.5 x64 CentOS 6.5 (x64) SUSE Enterprise Linux Server 11 SP3 Oracle Solaris 10
Type	Preupgrade check, configuration check
Check performed and expected result	If Remedy Smart Reporting is installed on a Linux 32-bit platform or an OS that is not supported per the compatibility matrix, a warning is displayed.
Corrective action	Ensure that Remedy AR System is installed on an OS that is supported.

Environment variable check

Description	Validates the environment variable is set for Remedy Smart Reporting.
Type	Preupgrade check
Check performed and expected result	The Remedy Smart Reporting installer sets the environment variable. If the environment variable BMC_SMART_REPORTING_HOME is set correctly, the check is successful. If environment variable BMC_SMART_REPORTING_HOME is not set, the check fails and displays an info message.
Corrective action	If the environment variable BMC_SMART_REPORTING_HOME is not set, the Smart Reporting upgrade installer sets it.

Tomcat check

Description	Validates the minimum supported version of Apache Tomcat if you are using an external Tomcat server. The minimum supported Tomcat version is 7.0.59
Type	Preupgrade check
Check performed and expected result	If the Tomcat version is below 7.0.59, an error message is displayed. If the Tomcat version is 7.0.59 or later, check is successful.
Corrective action	Install Tomcat 7.5.09 or later.

Database compatibility check

Description	Validates if the existing database is compatible with Remedy Smart Reporting. The following databases are supported: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Oracle 11gR2 (11.2.0.3.0)
Type	Preupgrade check, configuration check
Check performed and expected result	If the database is compatible, the following message is displayed: `Prechecker for database version compatibility successful.` If the database is not compatible, an error message is displayed.
Corrective action	Upgrade the database to the supported version.
