Preparing to run the installers

Before you install or upgrade BMC Remedy IT Service Management Suite, perform the steps in this section to prepare to run the installers according to your environment.

Note

If you have not already done so, make sure that the system meets the software requirements for installing the components. For example, BMC Remedy AR system requires install 64-bit Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 8 update 45 or later.

Best practices for running the installers

In addition to operating system-specific configuration, below are some best practices to remember before performing an installation or upgrade.

Best practicesAdditional information

Disable the Auto Negotiate option on the router.

During the upgrade process, your servers might lose network connectivity and cause the installation to fail. A common issue with the networking hardware is that the Auto Negotiate option of a router can incorrectly set the router to 10 MB Half Duplex. NICs, routers, and other network devices then agree on the fastest speed to communicate with one another, but that speed is usually too slow.

To avoid this issue, set all network devices at 1 GB Full Duplex, if possible, and disable the Auto Negotiate option on the router.

Turn off anti-malware programs.

During installation or upgrade, the installer writes new files to the system, creates new entries in the registry, restarts some of the services, and performs other setup operations. Anti-malware programs might treat these operations as suspected attacks and could either block the installer or cause a failed upgrade.

After the installation or upgrade is complete, turn on the anti-malware program.

Copy the installation files to the system on which you are installing.

An installation over the WAN can significantly increase the installation time.

If you are using Java 11, delete the unsupported JVM parameters.

Before upgrading Remedy AR System, you must remove unsupported JVM parameters from Java processes.

For example:

From the arserver.config file located in C:\Program Files\BMC Software\ARSystem folder, remove all unsupported parameters. For example: -XX:+UseParNewGC
