Accessing documentation for Session Monitor
The Session Monitor documentation is available at BMC documentation portal. Release Notes are provided in HTML format and spaces in Portable Document Format (PDF) and HTML:
Release Notes—Provides recent information for the Session Monitor product. In this file, you can quickly access technical notes and a list of the new features available in the release. The Release Notes may be updated throughout the life cycle of a release with the most current version located on the BMC documentation portal for easy access to the latest product information.
- Installing and Upgrading—Provides installation and configuration procedures.
- Customizing-after-installation—Supplements the Installing and Upgrading section, providing further customization instructions and reference information.
- Using—Explains how to use the Session Monitor Archive Function.

This section describes the contents of this space and notation conventions used throughout the space.
Session Monitor Using section overview
This space teaches you how to use Session Monitor for auditing mainframe business applications. It contains the following sections:
- Archive-Function-Overview—provides an introduction to the archive function.
- Archive Function—3270—creates archive recording requests allowing you to create search reports, write captured activity to a specified range of data sets called a repository, provide IT auditors and help desk personnel with the ability to easily locate and extract data from the repository, provide the ability to manage your archive reports and delete unnecessary reports, and define the terminals, applications, and user IDs to record or exclude from recording.
- Archive Function—TCP/IP—creates archive recording requests allowing you to create search reports and write captured TCP/IP activity to a specified range of data sets called a repository.
- Archive Function—WebSphere MQ—creates archive recording requests allowing you to create search reports and write captured WebSphere MQ activity to a specified range of data sets called a repository.
- Auditing-Profile-Defaults—provides information on how to edit your auditing profile settings.
- Customer-Support-diagnostics-report—produces a list of PTFs that have been applied to your installation.
