Working with CCS emulator

The CCS emulator (or session viewer) is an emulator of the mainframe console. The CCS emulator displays the exact mainframe console screen and enables you to interact in the same way as you might interact with the actual mainframe console. Every single session of CCS allows you to see the incoming messages, and interact with it. You can access the CCS emulator from the Consoles tab on the BMC AMI Console Management navigation bar.

Opening the virtual mainframe keyboard

The CCS emulator has a virtual mainframe keyboard to perform keyboard actions. The keyboard is located on the toolbar.

To open the virtual keyboard, click .

Operator Information Area (OIA)

The Operator Information Area (OIA) is located at the bottom of the CCS emulator screen.

The OIA contains the following information:

FieldDescription
Connection status

Displays the connection status of the console.

The connection status can be either connected or Not connected.

X status

Displays the system response

It can have one of the following values:

  • X-Clock: Waiting for system response. If this status continues for a long time, use the PA1 or Attn function to clear it.
  • X-System: Waiting for system response. If you get this status, click Reset in the virtual keyboard.
  • X-Go elsewhere: You have tried to type in a protected field. If you get this status, click Reset in the virtual keyboard and then move the cursor to an unprotected field.
Keyboard status

The keyboard status might have one of the following values:

  • Available: This status shows that the keyboard lockout is not enabled, or the keyboard lockout is enabled and is not owned by another user. When the keyboard status shows as available, you can type in any unprotected field.
  • Locked:  This status shows that the keyboard lockout has been enabled by the administrator and another user owns the keyboard.
  • Owned: This status shows that the keyboard lockout has been enabled by the administrator and you own the keyboard.
Insert
  • When Insert is visible beside the keyboard status, the emulator is in insert mode. When you type a character in insert mode, all characters on the right of the cursor move to the right side. You cannot insert a character if the field is full.
  • When Insert is not visible, the emulator is in overstrike mode. When you type a character in the overstrike mode, the character under the cursor is replaced with the typed character.
