Using the query-by-example method


If you perform a search inside a form by filling out fields in the form, you are performing a traditional FTS QBE search (for any of the fields that are FTS enabled). The query-by-example (QBE) Match field property affects QBE searches as follows:

  • If the property is not set to Equal, appropriate wildcards are added to the search terms automatically.
  • If the property is set to Equal, you must add the appropriate wildcards to the search terms.
Warning

Users can enter a QBE in any field indexed for FTS, according to the following syntax:

left,center,right

However, the property settings influence how an accrue search works, as shown in the following table.

To set QBE Match for a field

  1. In Developer Studio, open the form and select the required field.
  2. On Properties section of the field, on the Database property, select the QBE match from the QBE Match drop-down list.

To set the default preference for the QBE match

  1. In Developer Studio, on the Windows menu, select Preferences.
  2. On the Preferences window, select Form.
  3. On the Form panel, select the required Default QBE Match setting to change the preference.

  4. Click Apply and OK.

 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
