System requirements for Real User Analyzer and Collector

The Real User Analyzer and Collector are components of the Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition. The following system requirements are necessary to install these components:

Operating system requirements

Support for third-party products

To receive full support for a BMC product, you must have such product installed in a supported environment, as specified in the BMC product documentation. If a third-party vendor cancels support for one of its products (such as an operating system or subsystem), and that third-party product integrates or interacts with the BMC product you have licensed, you must upgrade to a supported version of that third-party product before BMC Customer Support can provide you with support for the affected BMC product. For further information, see BMC's product support policy. Open link

The Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition supports the following operating systems:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.x (64-bit)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.2 (64-bit)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.3 (64-bit)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.4 (64-bit)
  • CentOS 7.2 (64-bit)
  • CentOS 7.3 (64-bit)
  • Oracle Linux 7.0
  • Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS (64-bit)
  • Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS (64-bit)

Some additional packages need to be present on the system (see "Requires packages" below) for the  Real User Analyzer and Collector components to work.

X Window

If you are installing these components using the graphical user interface, you must install the X Window system.

You should use your operating system's recommended method for installing the X Window system.

Required packages

If you do not have these libraries installed, the installation will not run properly.

Based on the operating system and version in use, you need the following libraries or utilities installed on your system.

Note

Exact names of these libraries may vary depending on your operating system and version.

  • Crontab
  • Libaio
  • Logrotate
  • killall command line utility
  • OpenSSL

The following libraries are also required:

  • For Red Hat and CentOS
    • glibc.i686
    • net-snmp
  • For the Ubuntu Server
    • libxrender-dev
    • gcc-multilib
    • snmp
    • snmpd

If you are using an Ubuntu Server, stop the snmpd service before installing the Real User Analyzer or Collector to avoid conflicts during the installation process.

Network Time Protocol (NTP) synchronization

Warning

The data handled by application monitoring components, including all server components and agents, is time sensitive. If the time between components is not synchronized, you might see incorrect or partial data, or you might not see any data.

Consult your operating system documentation to synchronize each component's internal clock with an NTP server on your network or on the Internet. Ensure that the clocks are regularly synchronized.

This applies to all Real End User Experience Monitoring Software Edition components and integrated App Visibility Monitoring components.

Hardware requirements

The Real User Analyzer and Collector hardware requirements are different between the minimum requirements and the Demonstration (Demo) mode requirements. The Demo mode is intended for proof of concept testing, and is only applicable for use cases that have a low volume traffic (up to 100 hits per minute). When you install the Analyzer and Collector components, the installation wizard includes the option to install the components in Demo mode.

Based on the amount of network traffic, it is recommended to review the hardware requirements specified in the Analyzer and Collector sizing information.

Storage requirements

The Real User Analyzer storage is used for saving historical traffic data that you can access via the session browser (Analyzer). This data is stored "on board" the component.

The default disk configuration is 100 GB. To accommodate larger volumes of data, you can create a larger data disk (minimum 100 GB; maximum 570 GB) for each Real User Analyzer instance.

You can install the Analyzer in a Demonstration mode that only requires 10 GB.

Network requirements

The Real User Analyzer and Collector are interconnected to form a system. In addition, access to the interfaces of these components is achieved via the web. To avoid network-related performance issues, you must take certain configuration and infrastructure details into consideration when planning an installation. For example, deploy the Real User Analyzer and Collector in an optimized network in the cloud.

Supported LDAP servers

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 Active Directory
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory
  • OpenLDAP (slapd)

Compatible web browsers

You can access the user interfaces by using the following combinations of operating systems and web browsers.
