Setting the display language, date and time format, and time zone for the operator console


In the operator console, you can set the display language, date and time format, and time zone based on which the date and time are displayed in the operator console, if applicable. Currently, the operator console supports English and Simplified Chinese.

To set the display language, the date and time format, or the preferred time zone, perform the following steps:

  1. Click the Options link at the top of the operator console.
  2. On the General tab, under Date Format and Timezone Preferences, you can set the following preferences:

    Display Language

    Select the display language that you want to use as the default language for the operator console. The supported languages are English and Simplified Chinese.

    Date/Time Format

    Select the format of the date and time to be displayed on the operator console. After selecting a format, the sample date and time format is displayed.

    For example, if you select UK Date Format, the example format is as follows:
    01/08/2013 17:35 | Thu 01/08/13 | 17:35, where 

    • 01/08/2013 17:35 indicates a longer format of the date and time
    • Thu 01/08/13 indicates only the date format
    • 17:35 indicates only the time 

    Based on the requirement, the appropriate format is displayed in the operator console. The supported formats are Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Taiwanese, UK, and US. You can also customize the formats. For more information about customizing the formats, see Customizing the date and time formats.

    User Time Zone

    Select the time zone that you want the date and time to use. You can select any date and time format irrespective of the selected language. By default, the time zone of the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server is displayed.
    After you change your time zone, the new reports are created in the newly selected time zone. However, the reports created previously still display the older time zone that existed when they were created.

    Set as user time zone

    If you want to revert to the default time zone, select Set as user time zone.

  3. Click Apply.
  4. On the confirmatory message, click OK.
    The default view of the operator console is displayed.

Customizing the date and time formats

You can customize any of the predefined date and time formats. The date and time formats are defined in the following file:

  • (Microsoft Windows) installationDirectory\pw\pronto\conf\i18nConf.conf
  • (Solaris or LinuxinstallationDirectory/pw/pronto/conf/i18nConf.conf

BMC strongly recommends that you do not modify the predefined date and time formats.

To customize the date and time format, perform the following steps:

  1. Using a text editor, open the i18nConf.conf file.
  2. Search for the following entries:
    • #Detail Date and Time—Lists the detailed date and time formats
    • #Date and Time—Lists the date and time formats
    • #Date Only—Lists the date formats
    • #Short Date Only—Lists the shorter date formats
    • #Time Only—Lists the time formats
  3. Modify any of the listed predefined formats. Ensure that the updated format is in compliance with the Java format. 
  4. Save the file.
  5. Restart the BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server for the changes to take effect.
