Configuring email groups for notification rules


An email group is a collection of email addresses that enables you to send the notification rule actions to multiple recipients at once.

You can send email messages to individual email ids, email groups, or both using one or more of the following message formats:

  • ASCII - Full Page
  • ASCII - One-sentence Summary
  • HTML/GIF - Full Page

Details of the SMTP Server used for email alerts are saved in the <Infrastructure Management Install Directory>/pw/custom/conf/pronet.conf file.

  • These entries are dynamically generated. Do not edit these without prior impact assessment. Any changes to these entries will impact all mail-related Infrastructure Management actions (notifications/reports/alerts).
  • Ensure that the SMTP server is configured correctly to send the email notifications successfully.

You can create, edit, view, and delete email groups. 

To create an email group

  1. Log in to the TrueSight console, and go to Configuration > Notification Rules.

  2. Click the action menu  next to Notification Rules, and select Configure Email Groups. 
  3. Click the action menu  next to Configure Email Groups, and click Create Email Group.
  4. Specify a unique group name.
  5. Select an Infrastructure Management server to which you want to associate this email group.
  6. Specify email addresses. Type Enter to separate multiple email addresses.
  7. Select an email format.

    • You can add the same email id multiple times to an email group for distinct message formats.
    • HTML event notifications contain partial GIFs of the event summary detail along with the event graph for attributes.

    • HTML email messages with enhanced report and graphs are applicable only to advanced notification rules with an attribute-level criteria.
    • Make sure that your internet service provider, email client, and network support the HTML email messages.

  8. Click Add to view the entered details.
  9. Save the email group.

To edit an email group

  1. Log in to the TrueSight console, and go to Configuration > Notification Rules.
  2. Click the action menu  next to Notification Rules, and select Configure Email Groups.
  3. Select an Infrastructure Management server.
    A list of email groups associated with the Infrastructure Management server is displayed.
  4. From the email group  action menu, select Edit.
  5. Change the configuration details provided while creating the email group and click Save. You can modify all the details except the group name and the associated Infrastructure Management server details.

To view a list of email groups

  1. Log in to the TrueSight console, and go to Configuration > Notification Rules.
  2. Click the action menu  next to Notification Rules, and select Configure Email Groups.
  3. Select an Infrastructure Management server to view a list of email groups associated with the Infrastructure Management server.
    By default, the email groups are sorted by email group name. 

To delete an email group

  1. Log in to the TrueSight console, and go to Configuration > Notification Rules.
  2. Click the action menu  next to Notification Rules, and select Configure Email Groups.
  3. Select an Infrastructure Management server to view a list of email groups associated with the Infrastructure Management server.
  4. From the email group  action menu, select Delete

    You cannot delete an email group with associated notification rules. Before deleting such an email group, remove it from the associated notification rules.
