Perform the following steps to bring up the recovery TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server after a disaster.

Using the Calbro Services example, this section explains the steps to bring up the server at New York, newyork.calbro.com, after the server at Amsterdam, amsterdam.calbro.com, failed.

Set the DNS server

On the DNS server, make the appropriate changes so that the DNS alias redirects to the recovery TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

Transfer the latest \pw files

If no storage replication system is used, transfer the latest \pw files from the backed up source to the recovery TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

Note: BMC recommends that you use any third-party file synchronization and backup software to transfer the \pw directory because traditional copying can result in any unexpected failure.

Restore the database files

For information about the restore procedure, see pw database.

4Start the TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server
  • (Windows) From the system icon tray, right-click the Infrastructure Management icon, and click Server Start.
  • (Linux) Access the pw command-line interface, and enter the pw system start command.

Note

If you have problems with starting the service, ensure that the dbCmdLine.conf file is updated with the database name. The file is located in the following directory:

  • (Windows) pw\sybase
  • (Linux) pw/sybase

Validate the configuration

  1. In the TrueSight console, click Configuration > Managed Devices.
  2. Select the calbro server and from the more options menu, select View Performance Diagnostics.
    The page displays the configuration details present on the TrueSight Infrastructure Management server.
  3. When you have verified, select Monitoring > Devices and click the devices associated to the recovered TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.
  4. Check the monitors and plot graphs to verify that data collection is working fine.

Configure the remote event cells

This step enables the remote event cells to retrieve the IP address of the recovery TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server.

To configure a remote event cell

  1. To flush and reset the cache, open a command prompt on a remote event cell and run the following command:
    ipconfig /flushdns
  2. Restart the remote cell.
  3. Configure all the other remote event cells using the same procedure.
