Managing domain names

Infrastructure Management enables you to control how and if domain names are displayed as part of an element that is added to the *Device* folder.

Adding a domain name

1. Expand the Advanced Options and Domain Name folder.
2. Right-click the Domain Names file.
3. Select Add.
   The Add Domain Name window is displayed.
4. In the Name field, specify the domain name you want to add.
5. Click Add.
   The name appears in the Names field.
6. After adding each domain name, click Add.
7. When all domain names have been added, click OK. To stop the operation, click Cancel.

Editing a domain name

You cannot edit a domain name that appears in the Truncated Names list. Instead, you must first delete the domain name as described in Deleting a domain name, and then enter the domain name again as described in Adding a domain name.

Truncating a domain name

If desired, you can truncate the domain name portion of elements added to the Device folder.

For example, if you do not truncate the domain name, adding two servers to the Device folder displays:

server1.mycompany.com
server2.mycompany.com

After truncating the domain name mycompany.com and adding these same two servers, the domain name is truncated and the Device listing displays:

server1
server2

You cannot truncate the domain names of existing devices. Listings that include the domain name that were added to the Device folder before you truncate a domain name are not truncated. Also, if you delete a domain name that you have truncated, the previously truncated device listings remain truncated.

or example, you add two servers, serverA.mycompany.com and serverB.mycompany.com to the Device folder. After adding these two servers, you truncate the mycompany.com domain name. When you add two more servers, server1.mycompany.com and server2.mycompany.com, the Devicelisting displays.

To truncate a domain name

1. Expand the Advanced Options and Domain Name folder.
2. Right-click the Domain Names file.
3. Select Edit. 
   
   The Edit Domain Name window is displayed.
4. In the Name field, specify the domain name you want to truncate.
5. Click Add. 
   
   The name appears in the Truncated Names field.
6. After adding each domain name you want to truncate to the Truncated Names field, click Add.
7. When all domain names have been added, click OK. To stop the operation, click Cancel. 
   
   When you add any device using this domain name, the domain name portion is automatically truncated.

Deleting a domain name

1. Expand the Advanced Options and Domain Names folder.
   Right-click the Domain Names file.
2. Select Edit.
   The Edit Domain Name window displays with a list of truncated names.
3. In the Truncated Names window, select the listings you want to delete.
4. Click Delete.
   The names are removed from the list of truncated names.
