Importing the Infrastructure Management repository
The Infrastructure Management PATROL repository includes the current versions of the BMC PATROL Monitoring Solutions that you can use with Operations Management. For details about the contents of the repository files, see
List of Monitoring Solutions and KMs in Infrastructure Management
.
Notes
- Import the full repository, single, or custom solutions to deploy Operations Management components only.
- In a HA environment, import the repository on both Primary and Secondary nodes.
To download the repository files
The Infrastructure Management repository consists of two files, the base and extended repositories. You must download these files from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) facility.
Tip
BMC periodically releases updates to the repository files. To ensure that you have the latest versions of monitoring solutions, download the current repository files from EPD.
The following table provides links to the pages in the EPD website that contain the Repository files. From the EPD page, you can select and download the installation files for your platform. Access to the EPD website requires that you provide your BMC Support credentials. You might also be prompted to complete the Export Compliance Form.

To import the full repository with predefined packages and policies
Choose this option to get started with commonly used packages and policies that are created automatically for you. For more information, see Getting started with infrastructure monitoring.
Note
The option to import the full repository with predefined packages and policies is available only for * tenant users and when an Infrastructure Management server is registered with the Presentation Server.
- Log on to the TrueSight console. In the navigation pane, expand Administration, select Repository, and select the Installation Components tab.
- Click Import.
- In the Import a Repository or Solution dialog box, select Full repository with Predefined Packages and Policies and click Continue.
Browse and select the repository file from the Presentation Server file system, and click Import.
Note
You can import predefined packages and policies only from the Infrastructure Management PATROL base repository version 10.5.00 or later. The extended repository or earlier versions of the base repository do not contain predefined packages and policies.
- Provide the PATROL Agent details for Windows:
Installation Path
Specify the installation directory for the deployable packages. Note that the BMC PATROL products are installed one level below the BMC products installation directory.Note
The default installation directory is C:\Program Files\BMC Software and not C:\Program Files (x86)\BMC Software. If you have installed a previous version of the product, use the path specified for that installation.
- PATROL Default Account Properties
Provide the PATROL default account credentials. You must create this account manually before continuing with the installation. If you plan to use a domain account, enter DOMAIN_NAME\account name; otherwise, enter the local account. If you wish to allow the PATROL Agent to use the Local System account as the default account, clear the username and password fields.
- Provide the PATROL Agent details for UNIX:
- Installation Path
Specify the installation directory for the deployable packages. Note that the BMC PATROL products are installed one level below the BMC products installation directory. - PATROL Default Account Properties
Provide the PATROL default account credentials. You must create this account manually before continuing with the installation. If you plan to use a domain account, enter DOMAIN_NAME\account name; otherwise, enter the local account. - System Root (or root privileged via sudo) Account Properties
The root account is used to install one or more of the products you selected. Enter the login name and password for the root account (or root privileged account via sudo).
You can proceed without root credentials and complete the configuration at a later time using the <host name>_<PATROL Agent Port>_install_rootscripts script located under $BMC_BASE/log/<date>_<time>_install, where $BMC_BASE is the location specified while creating the packages. If you use the –log_path argument while installing the package, the script is located under <log_path>/<date>_<time>_install. Integration Service Configuration
The Integration Service variable is used for automatic registration of the PATROL Agent with Infrastructure Management.
Enter the Integration Services to connect to. Use the format Protocol:Integration Service Hostname:PortNumber. For example tcp:IS1:3183, where 3183 is the port on which the Integration Service host listens for an incoming PATROL Agent auto-registration connection.Tip
By default, this field lists the first non-staging Integration Service in the * tenant. If this condition does not apply, the first non-staging Integration Service across all tenants is listed.
- Predefined Policies
- If there are existing policies with the same name, you can choose to overwrite them or not.
- You can choose to enable the predefined policies or not.
Yes - monitoring starts automatically after deploying a package. Policy is applied based on the policy precedence. The precedence for predefined policies starts with 960. The default precedence for policies is now 900.
No - monitoring does not start automatically. You have to manually enable the policy.
- Installation Path
The selected archive file is imported to the repository and extracted. You can close the window during the import process.
The following predefined packages are created at Administration > Repository > Deployable Packages tab. You can delete predefined packages but cannot edit them.
Predefined package name | Description |
---|---|
Predefined_Package_For_AIX_PowerPC_<version number> | Predefined package with PATROL Agent and AIX KM |
Predefined_Package_For_Linux_x64_<version number> | Predefined package with PATROL Agent and Linux KM |
Predefined_Package_For_Windows_x64_<version number> | Predefined package with PATROL Agent and Windows KM |
The following predefined policies are created at Configuration > Infrastructure Policies.
Policy name | PATROL Agent selection criteria |
---|---|
Predefined Policy for AIX | Agent Operating System contains AIX |
Predefined Policy for Linux | Agent Operating System contains Linux |
Predefined Policy for Windows | Agent Operating System contains Windows |
