Nested instances

Nested instances are a special visual display technique for the PATROL Console in which application instances appear nested in hierarchies. This technique is used to visually depict complex hierarchical object relationships outside the PATROL product three-level hierarchy of application class, application instance, and parameter.

A typical situation in which PATROL KM data is best represented by nested instances is a relational database management system with its hierarchy of database servers containing tablespaces which contain tables.

Nested instance limitations

As a visual technique, nested instances appear as a complex hierarchy in the PATROL console, but the actual hierarchy in the PATROL namespace is the PATROL three-level hierarchy. Nested instances have inheritance limitations, therefore, inheritance of some attributes do not follow the hierarchical path.
