Monitor types and attributes
The PATROL for Light Weight Protocols contains native monitor types that are segregated based on the components. This section gives information about native monitor types and its attributes that are available in BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols.

Terminology note
Monitor types in the TrueSight console and Central Monitoring Administration are known as application classes in the PATROL Consoles. Attributes in Central Monitoring Administration are known as parameters in the PATROL consoles. You can access Central Monitoring Administration from the TrueSight console or ProactiveNet.
SNMP
This monitoring profile is used for monitoring network devices such as Switches, Routers, Load Balancers, Servers and so on based on SNMP data collection. The following application classes are available for this monitoring profile:

ICMP
This monitoring profile is used to ping network devices based on ICMP. Ping Monitor is used to ping a system using either its IP address or its DNS name (resolved to an IP address at every poll) and get the system's availability and response time. It uses ICMP protocol and sends an ECHO_REQUEST, and receives an ECHO_REPLY. The following application classes are available for this monitoring profile:

This monitoring profile is used to monitor ports and check the port availability and response time.
