ICMP- Ping monitor

This topic gives information about native monitor types and its attributes that are available in BMC PATROL for Light Weight Protocols to ping network devices based on ICMP. Ping Monitor is used to ping a system using either its IP address or its DNS name (resolved to an IP address at every poll) and get the system's availability and response time. It uses ICMP protocol and sends an ECHO_REQUEST, and receives an ECHO_REPLY.

The following are the available native monitors:

• Ping root (PPM_ROOT)
• Ping device (PPM_Device)
• Ping host (PPM_Host)
