System requirements

Verify that the target computer meets the installation requirements listed in the following table. These requirements apply to all PATROL for Windows Servers components.

Operating systems

All components of the PATROL solution for Microsoft Windows Servers work with the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008, x86-64

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 Core, 64-bit
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Core, 64-bit

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016, x86-64
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Core, x86-64

  • Remote monitoring is supported on all of the following operating systems.
  • References to x86-64 include AMD64 and Intel 64 architecture.

  • References to the operating systems mentioned include all editions of these platform families.

  • 32-bit platforms are not supported.

  • Installing Microsoft Windows Servers KM manually using setup.exe utility (done by extracting the installation utility and Windows KM installation file in a single directory) is not supported on Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Core x86-64 platform. You can install the KM on this platform using the TrueSight console. For more information, see Creating a deployable package and Deploying packages to PATROL Agents.

Remote monitoring support for Nano server
Version 5.0.00 onwards, remote monitoring (only) of Nano Server is supported. You can monitor 64-bit applications, tools, and PATROL Agent remotely. 

Security levels

 All security levels are supported.

For more information about PATROL security, see PATROL Security levels.

The PATROL Security Level is set during the installation of the PATROL infrastructure components. If your product contains the PATROL Agent, you are able to select the security level.

Make sure that the level that you select is compatible with the rest of your enterprise’s PATROL installation.

  • BMC PATROL Console for Microsoft Windows 3.5.90 and later
  • BMC PATROL Central Operator – Microsoft Windows Edition 7.8.00 and later

  • Distribution Server 7.8 and later
  • BMC ProactiveNet Operations Console 9.6 or later
  • BMC ProactiveNet Central Monitoring Administration Console 9.6 or later
 

Ports (UDP/TCP)

If you are installing an agent or console with PATROL for Windows Servers, you must specify the port number to connect to all the agent computers.

The default port number for agents is 3181.

The default port number for the RTServer is 2059.

Browsers

This product uses an installation utility that requires a browser. For a list of supported browsers, see the PATROL Installation Utility Online documentation.

BMC products are certified for use on supported operating system versions. BMC does not explicitly test for OS patches/updates that are released after a BMC product is released.
