Monitoring clustered Hyper-V environments remotely
Hyper-V KM provides remote monitoring of Clustered Hyper-V environments. With this feature, there is no need to install the monitoring PATROL Agent on the computer that you want to monitor. You can monitor your setup remotely without impacting the health of your computer.
When monitoring Clustered Hyper-V environments remotely it is important to determine the overall health of your Hyper-V Cluster, its nodes and virtual machines. The metrics listed here will help you to check the allocation of virtual machines on the cluster.
Active Virtual Machines
Allocation of virtual machines helps us understand if the Cluster is using optimum number of virtual machines. A high number of active virtual machines indicates that the server is using a fair amount of virtual machines and the Clustered Hyper-V is stable. For more information about this attribute, see Active Virtual Machines (ActiveVirtualMachines) attribute.
Set threshold on this attribute to get notified about number of virtual machines that are active. Consider setting up an alert to trigger if the number of active virtual machines drops drastically. The KM generates an alarm and triggers an event when the threshold values are met.
Suggested action
The KM event indicates that you might want to check the allocation of virtual machines in the Cluster.
Total Virtual Machines
Allocation of virtual machines helps us understand if the Cluster is using optimum number of virtual machines. You can identify the load on your cluster by checking the total number of virtual machines on the cluster. A low amount of total virtual machines indicates that the cluster might not be utilized up to its full capacity. For more information about this attribute, see Total Virtual Machines (TotalVirtualMachines) attribute page.
Set threshold on this attribute to get notified about number of total virtual machines. Consider setting up an alert to trigger if the number of total virtual machines decreases drastically. The KM generates an alarm and triggers an event when the threshold values are met.
Suggested action
The KM event indicates that you might want to check the allocation of virtual machines in the Cluster.
Where to go from here
Using the TrueSight console, you can adjust the thresholds ranges for these monitoring attributes with the Agent Threshold tab in the Infrastructure Policies page. For more information see, Defining-a-monitoring-policy.
