Enhancements

The following are the enhancements made in Service Pack 2:

Support for vSAN performance monitoring

PATROL for VMware vSphere now supports vSAN performance monitoring. This feature includes monitoring of following application classes,

The following are the prerequisites for vSAN performance monitoring:

  • vSAN should be configured on vCenter Server.
  • vSAN performance service should be enabled.

Support for datastore filtering

In PATROL for VMware vSphere 4.0.20, Datastore filter mechanism has been introduced to include or exclude the datastores from monitoring.

Improved the Event filter annotation

PATROL for VMware vSphere now displays the event details with Datacenter, Cluster, Hostsystem, VirtualMachine, Datastore, and Network in the annotation of the parameter representing the severity of filtered event for monitoring.

To download the installation files

The following table provides links to the pages in the EPD website that contain the installation files for this product. From the EPD page, you can select and download the installation files for your platform. Access to the EPD website requires that you provide your BMC Support credentials. You might also be prompted to complete the Export Compliance Form.

Installing the service pack

Before you begin

You must install the service pack on the following computers:

  • Hosts that are running the PATROL Agent
  • Hosts that are running the PATROL Console

Before you install the service pack, complete the following steps:

  1. Stop the PATROL Agent.
  2. Back up the PATROL_CACHE directory.
  3. Delete all BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere files from the PATROL_CACHE directory.
  4. Back up the PATROL_HOME/lib/knowledge and PATROL_HOME/lib/psl directories.

To install the BMC PATROL for VMware vSphere 4.0.20 Service Pack

    1. Extract the installation utility for your operating system as appropriate:

      • For Windows, double-click ins_WINDOWS_10700.zip.
      • For UNIX, enter tar -xvf ins_ALL_10700.tar.

        The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory.
    2. Extract the service pack files for your operating system as appropriate:
      • For Windows, double-click drvsm_ALL_4020.zip.
      • For UNIX, enter tar -xvf drvsm_ALL_4020.tar.

        The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products subdirectory. 
    3. From the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as appropriate for your operating system:

      • For Windows, double-click setup.exe.

      • For UNIX, run setup.sh.

    4. Follow the on-screen instructions until the Select Products and Components to Install page is displayed. 

    5. On the Select Products and Components to Install page, select PATROL for VMware vSphere - Service Pack 4.0.20.

    6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

After you complete the installation steps, you can delete the temporary directory and its contents.
