Guidelines

Announcement Support for this product will end on December 22, 2025. To monitor Oracle databases, we recommend that you use PATROL for Oracle Enterprise Database.

Extents Left (ExtentsLeft)

Warning

This feature is no longer supported by the KM version 9.7.11.03. For more information see, 9-7-11-03-Fix-Pack-3-for-BMC-PATROL-for-Oracle-Database.

The ExtentsLeft parameter reports the number of extents that can be added to the non-excluded object in a non-excluded user schema that has the least number of extents left. This parameter handles rollback segments other than those present in the SYSTEM tablespace. Only permanent tablespaces are monitored by this parameter. To monitor temporary tablespaces, you must use Smallest-Free-Space-Available-in-Temporary-Tablespaces-TempTSLeft and Smallest-Free-Space-Available-in-Temporary-Tablespaces-TempTSLeftPct.

When this parameter goes into alarm, the annotation reports all non-excluded objects in non-excluded tablespaces that are below the relevant alert level on warning and alarm.
This parameter considers tablespace, user and object exclusion in its calculations for warnings and alarms.

Recommendations

  • Enable the automated recovery feature to resize the next extent when the Free-Space-Deficit-FreeSpaceDeficit parameter alarms.
  • Enable the Autoextend option on the tablespace
  • The ExtentsLeft parameter is not supported in Locally Managed Tablespaces (LMT). If a database contains all LMT tablespaces, this parameter is de-activated. If a database contains only Dictionary Managed Tablespaces (DMT) tablespaces or both DMT and LMT tablespaces, this parameter will be online. However, in the above condition, the KM will only monitor the DMT tablespaces.
  • If the query for this parameter gives performance issues, you can skip the execution of this query by setting the value of the following pconfig variable to 1:
  • /OracleConfig.InstanceName.ExcludeExtentsLeft"

This will also skip the execution of the query for the ExtentsLeftPct parameter.
