Installing using PATROL console

This topic contains information about how to install KMs using the PATROL Central Operator - Web Edition (PATROL 7.x architecture) web server, the PATROL Console Servers, the RTservers, or the PATROL Classic Console.

Before you begin

  • Download the KM file.
  • Verify that your environment meets the requirements listed in the System requirements topic for the KM.
  • Read through the Planning topic for the KM before you start installing the product.
  • Ensure that the default PATROL account user has read/write permissions in the directory where you want to install the KM.

To perform a typical installation

  1. Perform one of the following actions:
    • If you have not already installed the PATROL Agent: First download the PATROL Agent and then extract the installation utility, PATROL Agent, and the KM file in the following sequence:
      1. Installation utility
      2. PATROL Agent
      3. The KM file
    • If you have already installed the PATROL Agent: Extract the installation utility and the KM file in the following sequence:
      1. Installation utility
      2. The KM file
    The contents of the files are extracted into the bmc_products directory.
  2. From the the bmc_products directory, run the installation utility as follows:
    • Windows: setup.exe.
    • UNIX: ./setup.sh -serveronly
      On UNIX the installation link is provided by the installer. Copy the installation link and open it from the browser to start the installation.
  3. In the Welcome to the Installation Utility window, click Next to begin your installation.
  4. In the Review License Agreement window, select Accept, and then click Next to continue.
  5. From the Select Installation Option window, select Install products on this computer now, and then click Next.
  6. In the Specify Installation Directory window, retain the default directory path or browse to a new directory path, and then click Next.
  7. In the Select System Roles window, specify whether the computer to which you are installing is used as a monitoring console or as a target managed system (or both), and then click Next:
    • If you are installing to a computer that will host the PATROL Central Operator - Web Edition (PATROL 7.x architecture) web server, the PATROL Console Servers, or the RTservers, select Common Services.
    • If you are installing to a computer that will host the PATROL Classic Console, select Console System.
    • If you are installing to a computer that will host a PATROL Agent, select Managed System.
    • If you are not sure which option to choose, select both Console System and Managed System.
  8. From the Select Products and Components to Install window, click + to expand the PATROL Knowledge Modules branch, select the KM, and then click Next.
  9. Review the setup information on the Review Selections and Install (or Review Selections and Create Installable Image) window.
    If you want to change settings, click Back to go back to previous windows.
  10. Click Start Install.
    When the status window reports that installation is 100% complete, Next appears. 
  11. Click Next to see the results window.
  12. Click View Log to review details of the installation, or click Exit to close the installation utility.
