Key concepts

PATROL for Linux provides monitoring of your Linux hosts, enabling you to determine the health of your Linux hosts. It provides current and historical information through a centralized console so you can easily view and manage your entire Linux environments. You can drill down to view detailed system metrics for all parts of your environment. PATROL also can take corrective action when things go wrong or are about to go wrong preventing downtime and its cost to your business.

  1. The KM monitors a complete range of Linux operating system parameters. Some of the entities are listed here. For a complete list of attributes, see Monitor types and attributes.
    • System-wide and per instance CPU monitoring
    • Disk performance monitoring
    • Filesystem resources
    • Kernel resource usage
    • Network performance monitoring
    • Memory utilization and performance
    • Swap space monitoring
    • System-wide processes and individual process monitoring
    • User sessions
    • User defined attributes
    • NFS
  2. The KM enables you to monitor Kernel-based virtual machines running on SUSE and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It provides basic health metrics of the guests running on KVM. The KM also enables you to configure complete OS monitoring of the guests that are discovered below the Kernel-based virtual machine by using remote monitoring.

  3. The KM enables monitoring of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager. It discovers the entire hierarchy and monitors the performance of data centers, clusters, domains, hosts, and guests.
  4. The KM supports a wide range of hardware support, that includes IBM zSeries, Inter x86-64, IBM Power hardware, and Itanium support. It supports multiple Linux distributions of SUSE, Ret Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, and Oracle Enterprise Linux operating system.
  5. The KM allows you to monitor your Linux hosts remotely. With basic profile, remote monitoring can scale up to 500 hosts. (provide a link to scalability)
  6. The KM allows you to remotely monitor your Linux hosts from a PATROL Agent running on Microsoft Windows operating system.
