PATROL for Apache Kafka is a monitoring product that enables you to monitor the core components of the configured Kafka system. This section contains information about the features in version 1.0.00 of the PATROL for Apache Kafka product.
Infrastructure Availability and Performance monitoring
PATROL for Apache Kafka provides monitoring capability at two levels:
Infrastructure Availability monitoring
Infrastructure Availability monitoring enables you to check the availability of the Zookeeper and all the Brokers. You can set alerts on the Kafka broker availability and the Kafka zookeeper availability attribute so that you get notified when the Broker and Zookeeper health is at risk.
Static topic monitoring
Static topic monitoring enables you to:
- Collect and monitor the Producer and Consumer metrics
- Check the availability of the Zookeeper, Broker, and Producer
The KM monitors the time taken by a message to reach the KM Consumer from the KM Producer. The Producer sends messages to all the Brokers that have topics configured on them. For information about how to configure the KM, see Configuring after installation.
It calculates the size of the message and the average time required to process the message from the Producer to the available Brokers, and from the Brokers to the Consumers. The time is calculated separately for each Broker. For more information, see the Message Time and the Message size attributes.
Support for multiple versions of the Apache Kafka Broker and Zookeeper
PATROL for Apache Kafka monitors multiple versions of the Apache Kafka Broker and Zookeeper.
The following table lists the local installation version of the KM and Producer with the corresponding Broker and Zookeeper version that you can monitor.
