Monitoring TCP IP, Telnet, and SSH connections
You can add a monitor and define a session for TCP/IP-based servers, Telnet servers, and SSH, protocols that BMC PATROL for Internet Servers does not monitor out-of-the-box. For TCP/IP sessions, you can monitor any service that exists on a single TCP port.
Note
Complex services, such as FTP that require the use of more than one port cannot be monitored with the port monitor. FTP can be monitored using the normal FTP capabilities of the KM.
Use the Port Monitor to:
- Define TCP/IP-based (excluding Telnet), Telnet, and SSH sessions
- Define simple sessions using a KM dialog box or you can define more complicated sessions using a definition file
- Connect to remote systems (Unix or Windows) supporting the Telnet protocol. This way you can log on to servers, issue commands, and compare the results against expected outcomes
- Verify the return content for validity
- Track the availability of services such as NIS (user login) and NFS (user home directories) by using the Telnet option
